First Teaser Trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's 'Pompeii' Action Movie

We all know the story of Pompeii. It's one of the first history lessons taught in school and it's one that sticks with everyone thanks to the shock of an entire city frozen by ash. That's the imagery this first teaser trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii begins with, reminding us of that terrifying story we're familiar with. Then W.S. Anderson kicks things into epic CGI overdrive, with an (obviously) massive volcanic eruption and endless sweaty, gritty, ash-covered battles. Emily Browning and Kit Harington star, but it's hard to tell that's even them. This is just a teaser, but it doesn't do much to make me any more interested in seeing this.
Here's the first teaser trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii, originally from Yahoo:
Set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, a slave on a ship heading for Naples works to get home to save the woman he loves and his best friend, a gladiator trapped inside of the city's coliseum.
Pompeii is directed by everyone's favorite filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson, of the Resident Evil franchise (including Afterlife and Retribution), Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Alien vs. Predator, Death Race and 2011's The Three Musketeers. The screenplay currently has credits for Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler plus Julian Fellowes and Michael Robert Johnson. FilmDistrict will be releasing W.S. Anderson's Pompeii in theaters everywhere starting February 21st, 2014 next year. A good spot to dump this. First impressions?

Give him a break, Event Horizon wasn't that bad -- even if it was a Hellraiser copycat.

The list of movies he's made doesn't make me excited for this. The three musketeers was garbage and I'm sick of resident evil just saying.

Everything about this screams 2nd rate - the director, the actors, the release date......this is going to be a steaming pile of garbage.

A movie about Pompeii should be a moving epic about the culture, and the beauty of the area. The focus of the Roman occupation should be more about the way the people thrived in spite of it. One of my favorite beers is based on a recipe from Pliny the Elder, who was an admiral with the Roman fleet that tried to rescue citizens from the blaze. This trailer looks like nothing from what I hoped it would be. Damn it Hollywood. Missed opportunity again.

Awkward moment when you confuse Paul W.S. Anderson with Paul Thomas Anderson...

Kit Harrington is awesome on Game of Thrones, Emily Browning is drop-dead gorgeous, the Pompeii story has always captivated me. Everything SHOULD make this a 'win' But it's directed by Paul W.S. Anderson! AHHH!...that is such a letdown it's not even funny.

Okay...in my completely ubiased opinion...that teaser had a great vibe going for it. In fact it's probably the best thing that Pauly's ever put out.....the trailer, that is.

Paul W.S. Anderson is a strange case. Event Horizon is a pretty cool little sci-fi/horror. Soldier is a somewhat interesting sci-fi action movie. Mortal Kombat was a fun martial arts/action movie. The first Resident Evil is pretty good, AVP had it's moments...and at least had some pretty cool production design. But jeesh, each Resident Evil movie has been less interesting than the last. The Three Musketeers looked just plain dreadful. He's inconsistent, but the sad thing is, when he is 'off' it's quite awful, and even when he's 'on'...it's at best just 'pretty darn good', never 'great'. I'll keep my fingers crossed. There are plenty of directors who have that 'one movie' that is just great, or at least miles ahead of everything else they've done. Some guys are just kind of 'perfect' to make one great movie in their career. So maybe the stars align and it will be this one?

He gets a lot of flack. The man has an awesome eye behind the camera, his movies are slick. Afterlife is a gorgeous film at times, even Retribution. You won't get a more cleaner or sterile looking product. He just has the unfortunate problem of being a kid with the visual effects, and he cant write a script to save his life. Maybe if he didnt write, and only directed. He seems to have more success this way.
