You're Next Trailer

"Why would anyone do this?" Lionsgate has finally released a trailer for a horror film they've been holding onto since 2011. You're Next, directed by Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die, VHS, VHS-2), is a reinvention of the home-invasion horror-thriller and was heralded as one of the best films of the late 2011 festival season after playing in Toronto and Fantastic Fest. The cast includes Sharni Vinson, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Ti West and Wendy Glenn. Having not seen the film yet, I must say, this trailer makes it look outstanding, but I still feel like it's all old news now. That said, I hope this is worth the wait in the end.

Here's the first official trailer for Adam Wingard's You're Next, in high def from Apple:

You're Next reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped… until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all. A Lionsgate and Snoot Films presentation in association with Hanway Films. You're Next is directed by Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die, Autoerotic, VHS, VHS-2), from a script by Simon Barrett (also A Horrible Way to Die, VHS, VHS-2). This first premiered at TIFF and Fantastic Fest back in 2011, and was delayed for two years by Lionsgate. The film will finally hit limited theaters starting on August 23rd, 2013 later this summer. Are you next?

Reminds me of The Strangers

Looks awful. Worse than the strangers. Straight to DVD not blu-ray

How do you mean old news, Alex? In terms of hype? If so, I can see that, but if not, a great film will stand up, regardless of delays, you know? For example, Cabin In The Woods. Been waiting for this for a while now. It was released overseas back when, I was upset it wasn't over here. Wingard, Swanberg and West are a trio to look out for in the future of horror.

Yea I mean, old news in terms of hype, in terms of buzz, in terms of this even being a genre reinvention. It happened, it already reinvented it, and got all that buzz... 2 years ago. Now it's kind of like, okay cool, I want to see it. But that buzz... is old news now. Literally 2 years old. :/ I hope this lives up to the hype and does well, but it was bad news for them to delay it for so long...

Looks great! I've been waiting to see this! The Strangers movie isn't even on this films level! This movie has more in common with the"Mother's Day" remake, which was excellent, as well as the very underrated thriller "Aggression Scale".

Finally a trailer! This looks fantastic. Do we know the reason for such a long time before release? Cabin in the Woods was delayed because of MGM's financial state. Tucker N Dale had trouble sealing the right deal, as far as I can tell. Now this had a long delay too...? It seems that cool horror films that put a new spin on the genre rather than repeating the same found footage/supernatural/torture premises (where the market is currently at) are cursed to be delayed for years...?

So either this is another funny games, or someone in the perfect family has a dirty secret. Mobile phones?
