Frank Miller Meeting with Zack Snyder About Batman & Superman Film

Batman vs. Superman

Though the news was spoiled before the big reveal at Comic-Con, the announcement that the next Superman film to follow Man of Steel would incorporate Batman sent fans into a fit of excitement. But with the film set to begin production in 2014 for a release in the summer of 2015, the project will be coming together pretty quickly, starting with finalizing the story. And considering that director Zack Snyder chose to use an except from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns to make the announcement a couple weeks ago, it only makes sense that the filmmaker is meeting with the comic writer to discuss the film. Read on!

The Independent (via Bleeding Cool) reports that Miller was not aware of the big announcement, but now that the story is out there, a source close to Miller revealed, "He’s going to be meeting up with Zack in the next few days to go over the plans for the Superman film so things should be clearer after that." Bleeding Cool is smart to point out that this source calls the project a "Superman film." And with all we've heard, it sounds like this won't be an assembly of heroes like The Avengers, but rather a straight-up Superman film where Batman will be a prominently featured supporting player, likely at odds with the Big Blue Boy Scout. That makes sense considering Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are also already lined up to return.

As of now, we're not sure if Miller's meeting with Snyder will have any big impact on the film, but maybe Miller could end up producing or helping out with the script. Miller already has a solid history with Snyder since the filmmaker adapted his graphic novel 300, and produced the upcoming follow-up 300: Rise of an Empire. At the very least, Miller will give some input on the gestating project. It would be great if Miller's graphic novel became the backbone for this melding of the two DC Comics superheroes, but we're still cautiously optimistic about the meeting of these to comic book icons. Thoughts?

Frank Miller wrote The Dark Knight Returns and I love him for that.. but then he kept it going and I hate him for that. The Dark Knight Returns is severely over rated when compared to other seminal Batman classics. And the Superman vs Batman portions of it are the worst.

Frank Miller's Dark Knight Strikes Again (sequel to TDKR) is an abomination and something people should be aware of. Frank Miller is creatively done when it comes to main stream super hero stories. Zack Snyder is a bit of a hack. Man of Steel is proof of that. MoS was a little bit of everything put together very poorly. Don't believe me? Check out Mass Effect, Halo for starters. Monkey skull codex? Serious?! GTFO!

"...sent fans into a fit of excitement." Eh... I think it was more the media that was in the "fit" of excitement. I can only speak for myself, but I imagine "fans" are much more skeptical than excited at this point. Hell, we don't even have casting for yet another Batman.

I'm pumped!! I just hope Zack Snyder does a better job of getting a more compelling performance from his actors. His visuals are always groundbreaking and on point, but the acting in some of his movies tend to fall flat and feel off beat. I know many people may disagree, but I felt Henry Cavill barely had to act in Superman. He may be a very talented, but I wasn't impressed with his performance. The only people that stood out to me were of course Russel Crowe, Amy Adams, and general Zod's right hand girl Faora-UI played by Antje Trau. All I know is that I'm excited to see this story come to fruition, and wish Zack the best. Long live Batman!!!!!!

It would be pretty sweet to get Mark Millar in there with them. I know it would be a huge long shot, but still. He would shake things up in a good way, I think.

DC will hopefully show Marvel that they will no longer be the big boys when it comes to movies. I like them both, but without competition, Marvel will get lazy and give us more Daredevil or Elektra. on a side note, check out the newly released DVD "Flashpoint Paradox." This is how a Justice League movie should be done.

Marvel Studios never *gave* us Daredevil and Electra. Sure, Marvel sold the rights for the characters to Fox in order to make some money, but blame Fox for those movies not Marvel.

But should Fox get 100% of the blame? I cannot imagine Marvel has their eyes and ears covered while saying to Fox, "No, no, dont tell us what yoir are going to do. Suprise us, tee hee."

I really hope they don't let Frank turn Batman into his 'All star Batman and Robin' abomination.

Also, Miller is the WORST person when it comes to Superman.

Honestly, Frank Miller might be the worst person you could possibly consult regarding Batman and Superman. Yeah okay, Dark Knight Returns was good, but not only is it both highly overrated and far from the best Batman and Superman story published, but the guy has produced nothing but complete garbage in that last decade (with the exception of the Sin City movie), especially with anything concerning the DC Characters.

Rumor control: Miller is having a meeting because he is pissed he did not get paid for his prose that they read at SDCC 2013. Nolans Batman trifecta was great because it bored from so many comics, I really hope BvS is not based solely on the end of TDKR comic. They should just make that as a two part movie(like the animated one) with an old Batman(Clint Eastwood), and Superman obeying Reagan. Oh, and I'd also like to add that Miller is dick. They should hire Grant Morrison instead, someone who cares.
