The Hunger Games director Gary Ross and Hanna director Joe Wright have flirted with Houdini, a film based on the popular book The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero, but neither came through to finalize a deal. Now Deadline reports a new director has stepped up to the plate with Galaxy Quest and RED 2 director Dean Parisot now in talks to take over the project which Summit Entertainment has been developing for years. Rather that simply focusing on Harry Houdini, the legendary master illusionist, and his career as a magician, the film dives into the secret life of the renaissance man.
The premise revolves around Harry Houdini, the world-renowned escape artist, and his involvement with helping the Secret Service, local police organizations, and even whispers of him being a British spy. An early draft of the script, described as Indiana Jones meets Sherlock Holmes, was written by Catch Me If You Can writer Jeff Nathanson, but the newest incarnation of the story comes from Noah Oppenheim, who has gestating projects like the remakes of War Games and Snabba Cash on the way. Parisot is only in early talks, so he could just as easily fall away from the project, but we'll keep you posted.

Leave magic alone! Hasn't Now You See Me or The Incredible Burt Wonderstone taught Hollywood anything?

Sounds good. I like the old fashioned-styled magic movies.
