Gremlins

As we learned late last summer, a remake, reboot or sequel to Gremlins cannot happen without Steven Spielberg and his Amblin Entertainment banner. That was some great news, because we figured it would make it very unlikely to see another installment. But now Warner Bros. is busy negotiation with Amblin in order to set up a reboot of the 1984 horror comedy directed by Joe Dante. However, don't get worked up yet because Vulture says negotiations like this between the studio and Spielberg's people have happened before and resulted in nothing. At this point, Spielberg might actually produce for it to happen.

As of now, this is just another potential remake or reboot, but a deal is not near being finalized yet. Don't expect Spielberg to direct, but rather produce (he executive produced the original, so that could happen again if he allows it. Honestly, a reboot of Gremlins wouldn't be terrible, but much of the charm comes from the practical effects used in Dante's original, and digital animation would like be used to bring Gizmo and the rest of the Mogwai turned slimy gremlins to life. As of now, we'll keep our ears to the ground for any potential updates, so stay tuned if Warner Bros. will feed the gremlins after midnight again.

I'm surprised ET: The Extra-Terrestrial hasn't been considered with a sequel as of today

Can we start an early campaign to only support this movie if it strictly bypasses all CGI? I would see the hell outta another Gremlins movie but if it goes CG I'm out.

It will be CGI's. It will be horrible. So it is written, so shall it be done.

I think a reboot is a wonderful idea for this franchise I use to be against it but now I'm starting to warm up to the idea and I also read somewhere that they are planning to keep the CGI to a minimum.

Adding another comment to the "no CG Gremlins" pile. Don't be jerks. Do it properly.

No CGI, go animatronic. Also just make it Gremlins 3 and have Joe Dante direct with the original cast. No idea who should score it since Jerry Goldsmith is no longer around.
