Gus Van Sant Shot '50 Shades of Grey' Test Reel with Alex Pettyfer
Calm down, ladies. All right, ever since Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced their acquisition of 50 Shades of Grey from The Social Network producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, rumors have been swirling about possible directors line Angelina Jolie, leading men like Alexander Skarsgard and Ian Somerhalder and leading females like Emma Watson. None of those are anything but rumors at this point, but now some solid contenders have surfaced. The Wrap has learned that Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant shot a test scene for the film with Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer in the lead. More below!
Now Universal and Focus have said that there's no offer to Van Sant to direct the film, and they didn't even ask the director to shoot this test reel. This just seems to be something that Van Sant felt compelled to make, apparently because he wants the job that badly. As for Pettyfer's use in the reel, there's no guarantee that he would land the lead role or the commanding Christian Grey, but it would stand to reason that there's something Van Sant likes about him in order to use him for his test scene. Plus, Pettyfer's already working with Universal on Endless Love in Atlanta right now.
The only other details of the scene that have surfaced are that it's the steamy sequence where Anastasia Steele loses her virginity to Grey. That means there was an actress on set to play Steele, but the source could not determine what actress played the submissive female in the adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling erotic novel. It's arguably one of the most important and sexual scenes of the book, and since Van Sant doesn't currently have a project lined up after his most recent gig behind the camera for The Promised Land with Matt Damon, it sounds like he's holding out for this anticipated project. Thoughts?
shit. I would actually want to see this movie if Van Sant directs it. fuck.

Not interested in this at all. If I had a choice of having to see these really badly written books adapted into films or chew off my own foot, I would seriously consider chewing off my own foot.

I hope Van Sant goes back to being awesome, cause lately his oscar baity stuff isn't doing much for me.. 50 Shades I couldn't care less about, but GVS yeah, that would make it interesting.

Haha, I didn't think I could possibly be any more adverse to 50 Shades of Grey, but Pettfyer is like the icing on the cake. I can't think of an actor I despise more.
