Even though Emily VanCamp will take the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the original love interest and worthy companion of Steve Rogers from Captain America: The First Avenger will still show up in some capacity. Hayley Atwell (who is also interested in landing the role of Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot) recently spoke with The Age (via Comic Book Movie) and confirmed that her character Peggy Carter has some sort of involvement in the sequel, but could not say anymore. However, for those looking for some serious action for the hardened woman of the military, there might be a treat this summer.

Carter spoke about her involvement in the sequel, and mentioned that fans have been campaigning to see more from the character, and they just might get their wish at Comic-Con this summer. Atwell says:

"There's been an online campaign for Peggy to be featured. People really liked her. So Marvel have made sure that as part of ComicCon there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy's actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things."

So does that mean there might be some sort of spin-off for Peggy Carter? I'd bet no, but Atwell would obviously be interested in that opportunity. The actress says, "I'd revisit Peggy again. She's pretty uptight. I'd like to, if I get a spin-off, definitely add a bit of humor in there. She's very British. Very uptight. Let's hope if she gets a spin-off it's modern day, so she can relax a little bit, let go of the uniform." Unless she was frozen just like Cap, it would be hard to bring her into present day. But it sounds like Carter might be the star of a Marvel One Shot short film this summer. Stay tuned for any updates.
