In the real world, Helena Bonham Carter may married to Tim Burton, but in a new TV film from BBC Four, she's married to Richard Burton. That's because she's playing the legendary Elizabeth Taylor in a film aptly titled Burton & Taylor, a drama that follows acting husband and wife duo, Richard Burton (Dominic West) and Elizabeth Taylor, as they prepare for a 1983 theatrical production of the play Private Lives on Broadway. Pressured by super stardom and the seemingly unending public interest in their personal lives, the two struggle to be taken seriously on stage while trying to maintain their relationship. It looks pretty good, and just might end up getting some awards intention for the small screen. Watch below!
Here's the first trailer for Richard Laxton's Burton & Taylor, direct from BBC (via EW):
Legendary acting duo and husband and wife, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor prepare for a 1983 theatrical production of the play, "Private Lives" in this BBC Four drama from director Richard Laxton ("Him & Her") and writer William Ivory ("Common as Muck"). The BBC says, "Burton & Taylor is a drama about one of the most fascinating, glamorous and tempestuous relationships of the 20th century. The two most famous movie stars of their day played out every high and low of their love affair, their marriages and divorces right in the public eye.” The film premieres on BBC in the UK this year and BBC America in 2014.
