Just over a week ago, one of two new projects landing the talents of Spanish actor Javier Bardem was The Gunman, a new thriller from Taken director Pierre Morel. The film is based on Jean-Patrick Macnhette's novel Prone Gunman with a script by Dredd and Vantage Point director Pete Travis and Sean Penn in the lead role as international hitman Martin Terrier, who is betrayed by the organization he works for and must go on the run in a relentless game of cat-and-mouse across all of Europe. Now THR has word that Thor and The Losers star Idris Elba is in talks to take a role in the European cat-and-mouse thriller. More below!
Elba will be playing a mysterious operative named Dupont, and it's not clear how he gets involved with the story. Will he end up working with Penn or joining Bardem in bringing him down? The actor is a fantastic British talent who has been gaining a lot of traction over the past few years. In addition to his starring role on the series "Luther," Elba has landed pivotal supporting roles in Prometheus, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Thor (with a bigger role in Thor: The Dark World this fall) and a very prominent role in Pacific Rim this summer. Putting him in a film with Penn and Bardem has a lot of potential for greatness.
