After landing an Oscar nomination for the breakthrough performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild, pint-sized actress Quvenzhane Wallis lined up a big studio movie with Sony's remake of the classic musical Annie. The film is a contemporary update of the musical with Will Smith and Jay-Z producing the film and Easy A director Will Gluck at the helm. Now the adult supporting cast is getting filled out as Heat Vision reports Jamie Foxx is currently in talks to play Benjamin Stacks, a variation of the Daddy Warbucks character who takes in the curly haired oprhan who started out as a newspaper comic strip. More below!
Right now the film is slated for release sometime in 2014, so production is hoping to begin this fall. Foxx must be impressing Sony on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (see photos of him in character right here) as Max Dillon and electrical engineer and lineman who becomes the villain Electro. Foxx is a solid choice as an actor and a musical talent since he started a singing career years ago and has had several hit singles. Honestly, I'm anxious to see what influence Jay-Z has on the music, especially with a popular artists like Foxx on board, and hope there's some clever reinventions of the classic tunes.
