Jared Harris Joins Kit Harrington in Paul W.S. Anderson's 3D 'Pompeii'

While we just exclusively learned that Paul W.S. Anderson will be directing Resident Evil 6 this fall, his other project Pompeii continues to round up a cast. "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harrington joined the cast, and his love interest will be played by Sucker Punch lead Emily Browning. Now THR has word that "Mad Men" and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows star Jared Harris has landed a role in the 3D period action adventure about Milo (Harrington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Flavia (Browning), the daughter of a wealthy merchant. But that's not all.
He must also deal with a corrupt Roman general whom Flavia was forced to marry by her father (Harris). So where does the race against time come into play? After Milo is sold to an owner far away, Vesuvius blows up, and he must race back to Pompeii to rescue his love and another gladiator friend locked in the coliseum. This sounds like it could be something slightly different for Anderson, but he did venture to the past with Three Musketeers, and that was still completely ridiculous bullshit (though mindless fun to laugh at). Plus, it doesn't help that the script comes from Batman Forever writers Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler. A revision by "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes gives us hope, but not much. After all, it's 3D and will likely throw things at your face, because Anderson thinks that's cool. Maybe Harris can add some gravitas?
