Audiences may not remember, but This is The End star Jay Baruchel had a small role in Cameron Crowe's stellar Almost Famous. He followed around Led Zeppelin while William Miller (Patrick Fugit) hung out with Stillwater, and he pops up a bit more in the Bootleg Cut of the film as well. Now Baruchel is 13 years older, and he's reuniting with Crowe for the director's still Untitled Hawaii Project, which is already under production. The story follows a defense contractor (Bradley Cooper) who is overseeing a weapons satellite launch from Hawaii and teams up with, and eventually falls for, an Air Force pilot (Emma Stone) stop it.
Rachel McAdams, Danny McBride and Alec Baldwin are also on board the film, and THR reports Baruchel joins their ranks as Cooper's step-brother. The short plot details sound simple, but the trade says that mystical island forces and a talking computer also play a part, so this one might be a little different for Crowe. Previously we heard the story followed a military weapons consultant deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite. However, he soon has moments of self-discovery as he reflects on the relationships he left behind. There were also Hawaiian Gods and a volcano sacrifice, so it sounds like this really is just a reworking of Crowe's former Deep Tiki project from years ago. Stay tuned.
