After debuting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the directorial debut from The Descendants writers and comedy actors Jim Rash and Nat Faxon has debuted a trailer. The Way, Way Back has quite an impressive cast including Steve Carell, Toni Collettte, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolphs, Allison Janney, Rob Corddry and Amanda Peet. But the film's star is Liam James, as he struggles with adolescence, but stumbles upon the greatest summer of his life while on a trip with his mother (Collette) and prickish potential step-father (Carell). This was a real treat to see at Sundance (read my review here) and it could be the crowd-pleasing indie hit of the year, so don't miss it. Watch the trailer!
Here's the first trailer for Nat Faxon and Jim Rash's The Way, Way Back, originally from Apple:
The Way, Way Back is written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Descendants). The film follows the coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend (Steve Carell), and his daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up and begins to find his place in the world. Fox Searchlight releases the film this summer July 5th. Good?

Yeah, another coming-of-age story about an awkward white teenage boy. So original.

I'm gonna have to agree with you! Yeah it looks like some decent writing...but it is just another coming of age movie about an awkward white boy....and a summer job with cool adults that get him... and a single parent that's tuned out..and a way too hot for him chick...I really feel like Ive seen ALL these tropes before.

Toni Collette looks like an alien that has seen better days in the (youtube) still above. She's still bitching though.

Anybody else think that "hold please, hold there..." might become a classic catch-phrase?

OK, the story has been told before, burt it's about the characters and their development. And the acting ofcourse. Rockwell is just brilliant!

I'm in.. sure we've seen similar storylines recently in movies like Perks of Being A Wallflower, The Art of Getting By, etc... but who cares? I like to feel like im growing with characters... what better age to focus on that then adolescence. We were all confused about life back then so it's easier to connect. Great cast and the humor looks solid and heartfelt
