Joe Lynch's New Short Film 'Truth in Journalism' Has a Marvel Twist

There's a breadth of fanmade films out there featuring iconic characters from pop culture. From TV icons to comic book heroes, many fans take it upon themselves to tell the stories they want to see involving their favorite characters. However, most of them aren't subtle, and lack a lot of originality and creativity. But a new film called Truth in Journalism from Knights of Badassdom and Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch is something cool to behold. The film features Ryan Kwanten as a familiar New York City journalist being tailed by a French documentary crew, and they discover more than they had anticipated.
Here is Joe Lynch's new short film Truth in Journalism, tip via SlashFilm:
That's right, the above short film that takes more than a few cues from the 1992 film Man Bites Dog leads into a reveal of Eddie Brock and his turn into the Spider-Man villain Venom. Plus, there's another cool appearance at the end. Venom is easily one of the most popular Marvel characters that fans clamored to see before he was wasted in Spider-Man 3. Though I maintain that Topher Grace was a fine counter to Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, the character was not treated with respect and felt tacked on in an already crowded sequel. This is the kind of short film we love to see, especially from a director like Joe Lynch. Cool short?

Check out a film called Red Hill about a small town Australian Sheriff having to deal with a lot of shit that he didn't sign up for on his first day.

I heard that Denis Sergovskiy is actually the Visual FX Venom! Did you see what happened to his Facebook Page today? https://www.facebook.com/sergovskiy https://www.facebook.com/kingsergovskiy Looks like Venom took over today (lol). He posted some pics from the set. I also just saw his Twitter: https://twitter.com/kingsergovskiy AWESOME! I’m a huge fan of VENOM and Denis. He would be PERFECT for a Venom movie. Make it happen Marvel!

The venom costume looks like something you buy at party city for $9.99. Who's the dude at the end? Rhino? Some X-Man? Does anybody know?

It's Bullseye, the Daredevil villain. Look at his forehead and the hint that he doesn't have to look to hit his target after he asks Brock for his pen. Thought it was a little obvious, but hey, some people notice it at first and other don't. Still a really really cool short film.

Its odd that they chose him considering hes like the running gag failure of a villain any time he shows up. I think in the comics he had his entire body shattered a half a dozen times lol.

"Man Bites Dog", 1992. Thus, the "cinema!"-reference.

Ethan wasn't born then, so he hasn't seen Man Bites Dog.
