Jon Hamm is Sandra Bullock's Inventor Husband in 'Minions' Spin-Off

A couple months ago we learned that Sandra Bullock will be stepping into the sound booth to voice a super-villain in Minions, the animated Despicable Me spin-off focusing on Gru's little yellow henchman. Bullock is voicing Scarlet Overkill, a stylish bad-ass super-villain bent on world domination in the 1960s who is chosen as the minions new leader. Yes, the film is a prequel to the Illumination film which featured Steve Carell voicing the villainous leader of the weird little creatures. And now Bullock has a handsome husband to join her, as Deadline reports Jon Hamm will play her inventor spouse named Herb Overkill. Read on!
The prequel will actually reveal that the minions have been around since the beginning of time, serving under history's most ambitious villains, so that's kind of cool. Plus, lining up Hamm and Bullock for the leads is pretty promising. Of course, my big hesitation comes from the fact that the minions seem to work in small doses in Despicable Me. Yes, they're goofy, funny and make kids laugh with their slapstick antics, but that can get annoying if they're around all the time for 90 minutes. Hopefully human characters make the December 19th, 2014 release easier to swallow. Meanwhile, Despicable Me 2 hits theaters on July 3rd.
