Following the stellar casting of Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (which Lionsgate just revealed will have a panel at Comic-Con), another great bit of talent is being courted for a role in the final chapter, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Deadline has word that Lionsgate and director Francis Lawrence have their sights set on Julianne Moore (Carrie, The Kids Are All Right) to play President Alma Coin. The smart but manipulative politician is a pivotal figure in the final chapter of the story following the spark of a revolution Katniss Everdeen begins in the second film. Read on!
Moore would be signing on for both parts of Mockingjay, as the final book in the trilogy is being split into two films. It won't be the first time Moore has played a questionable politician as she won an Emmy for her turn in HBO's Sarah Palin chronicle Game Change. She'll also be playing the unstable mother of Carrie alongside Chloe Moretz in the remake from director Kimberly Peirce arriving this fall. This would also mark her second young adult series as she also stars in Seventh Son with Jeff Bridges. Soon you can see Moore in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut Don Jon, and stay tuned for more updates.
