KFBR392: Will Forte Says 'MacGruber 2' is Definitely Happening Now

Just last summer, fans of the cult classic "Saturday Night Live" film adaptation of MacGruber were briefly excited about the possibility of a sequel. Director and writer Jorma Taccone had mentioned that he would be writing it with star Will Forte, but then the actor pulled back and crushed the dreams saying that Taccone may have been a little too optimistic about the prospect. However, it sounds like Forte has changed his tune and now has a whole new confidence that the sequel will actually happen by any means necessary. While talking with EW, Forte said, "We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure." MacGruber! More below!
Forte elaborated, "Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.” Hopefully that doesn't just mean it will be a Funny or Die video or something like that, but it sounds like Forte and Taccone have a plan to get it off the ground with Kickstarter. While it seems like they're just following the trend in the wake of the success of a Veronica Mars film getting funded, Forte says, "Jorma [Taccone], the MacGruber director, he had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago. He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve. That’s the lesson you learn — always listen to Jorma.”
Honestly, this is the best news I've heard since last summer when MacGruber 2 seemed like a possibility. Though MacGruber may not have been a hit at the box office, it has found a decent audience on Blu-Ray and DVD, and has become sort of a cult classic. Forte's big screen roster is only growing right now with a lead role in Alexander Payne's new film Nebraska and also voicing one of the key roles in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, so maybe he'll be a more bankable name by the time this sequel comes together. Either way, I'm just glad to hear Forte be so certain about the sequel. KFBR392.

Guilty pleasure? The film is amazing. It routinely breaks the comedy rule of three, which always leaves me wanting more MacGruber.

What's the comedy rule of 3? (I know I could google it, but I prefer to have a conversation)

Usually jokes happen once or 3 times. The first time is the introduction and people laugh. The second time people take notice of the joke. The third time is the call back and at that point the audience anticipates and laughs more because they're in on the joke. A variation of "The game has changed, but the players are the same." is said twice. I expect it to be said once more, but it never happens. There are a few other things that happen, but I can't recall them right now.

I was disappointed to know it flopped. The movie was funnier than all of the SNL skits combined. I hope the sequel gets made!

I walked out on this movie in the theater because I thought it was terrible. I watched it again because all of my buddies told me I would love it and that I was way off base with my decision to walk out. Now that I have watched it about 200 times, it is easily one of my top 5 favorite comedies of all time, easily.

I didn't know anybody who loves this movie as much as I do until reading the comments of this story.
