Kristen Stewart & Jesse Eisenberg Reunite for 'American Ultra' Action
Following summer jobs at Adventureland in 2009, co-stars Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg are reuniting for a new movie called American Ultra. Mixing 30 Minutes or Less and Enemy of the State, the film will follow Eisenberg as a lazy stoner named Mike, living with his girlfriend Phoebe in a small, unexciting town. But suddenly, there's something to get Mike moving as his past catches up with him and he finds himself targeted by a government operation for termination. Sounds pretty outlandish, but with a script from Chronicle writer Max Landis, we're actually pretty interested to see how this one plays out.
In addition, THR reports Project X director Nima Nourizadeh will be directing. It's interesting that both the writer and director had breakout films using found footage as a narrative element, but there's no indication that this film will utilize the same technique. However, producer Anthony Bregman (who has Enough Said in theaters with one of the final performancse from James Gandolfini) says, "Simply put, American Ultra will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks or canola oil." Sounds a bit over-the-top, but it's better than the usual publicity fluff that gets thrown around nowadays. The film is supposed to begin production in April, so stay tuned for more.
Landis is a hot ticket right now. I don't like Stewart, but I will check it out.
