Paul Rudd - Ant-Man

It's official - Paul Rudd is Ant-Man. Marvel has confirmed, via Marvel.com, that Rudd will play Ant-Man in the Edgar Wright-directed movie, due out in 2015. We first reported this news earlier in the day, putting to rest any rumors of Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Simon Pegg for the role. Now we have confirmation including a quote from Kevin Feige (below). There's no mention of the version of Ant-Man Rudd will play, but the news does say his casting "represents the actor that Marvel had long ago identified as its first choice to play Ant-Man, continuing the studio's desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes." Indeed. Great choice, I'm intrigued to see how this Wright and Rudd superhero team up turns out.

"When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star," said Marvel's Kevin Feige. "We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."

Disney has Marvel Studio's Ant-Man, being directed by Edgar Wright, currently scheduled for release on July 21st, 2015. Stay tuned for more updates from this point as casting continues before shooting begins.

Can't wait to see the comedy element he will bring to the team. Don't come off too dry mister Rudd. Lol. Please don't mess up.

In Avengers 3, maybe a cameo appearance or small role/reference in Age of Ultron?

I'm glad to see it...I realized just a few months ago that he was one of the leads in Halloween 6. Not a good movie, but it's funny to see essentially where someone started and where they are now. I also remember that he was apparently the runner up to play Robin in 'Batman Forever'. So knowing that he initially started out pursuing a superhero character, found his niche in comedy, and now finally WILL be playing a superhero character....it's nice.

I'm afraid this movie will have an uphill battle due to the name alone. I'm probably a bigger fan of super hero movies than most, and I'm excited about another Marvel film, but I think a movie about "Ant-Man" is going to be a hard sell for the general public. I'll be interested to see how they market it.

It's definitely gonna have to look back to the Iron Man marketing for inspiration. Much like Iron Man was, Ant-Man isn't a household name, yet, which is great for Rudd and co. because they now have the confidence to go in and make the film knowing that people will follow it because it's a Marvel property, so box-office earnings will be no problem. That trailer and Robert Downey Jr. alone were enough to give people reason to go out and see Iron Man, so I think the same method will be done for this film. But, if the trailer's no good, this might struggle to make back it's money like the last Hulk film, which only made $260 million worldwide off a $150 million budget. Hopefully that's not the case with this film, as it would be a tragedy for Wright to have yet another comic adaptation flop on him (much like the brilliant Scott Pilgrim vs. the World unfortunately did).

Paul Rudd is an actor I love and adore. His films and his comedy are outstanding. However to cast him as a super hero, is a very questionable step. He has never done a single action film that I can think of and he doesn't really come off as a scientist/inventor. I would have liked to see Simon Pegg play Ant Man but until we see a trailer its really up in the air. This could be great or it could be aweful.

Rudd will be great in this. I imagine a performance from Rudd on par with something along the lines of Robert Downey Jr. from the first Iron Man film. People were hesitant at first about it, but once the trailer came out... everyone knew that film would be great. This will be the same. Plus, it's got Edgar Wright directing! You know, the guy who directed the epic Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy? Expect greatness from this film.
