Marvel Moves 'Ant-Man' to July 2015, 'Star Wars' Holiday Release Likely

September 9, 2013

For awhile now, Marvel's Phase Three title Ant-Man has been slated for a November 6th, 2015 release. However, Disney and Marvel Studios have now decided to move the film up five months for a July 31st, 2015 release. Edgar Wright is still directing the film and co-writing the script with Joe Cornish. We're still waiting to see who will step up to play the title character after Simon Pegg pranked fans on Twitter by hinting at his own casting a little while back. But for fans of Marvel's cinematic universe, this is only good news, and we can't wait to see what Wright does with the lesser known comic book superhero. More below!

The release shift places it just two weeks after Man of Steel 2 (or Superman vs. Batman) hits theaters on July 17th, 2015, and that could be a bit risky if the Zack Snyder film blows audiences away. The film also joins The Avengers: Age of Ultron as Marvel's second summer release (that sequel arrives May 1st, 2015), and we're sure many of those fans will turn out for the flick. This pretty much solidifies the rumors that Disney was looking at a holiday release for Star Wars: Episode VII. While December 15th was the rumored date for the J.J. Abrams sequel, maybe Disney will shoot for November now instead. Stay tuned.

Marvel is betting too high on this film to be successful. At least in November they had a safe and not fully crowded release date. I know the film is going to do fine with Wright at the helm but I am just worried about the release date.

The November 6th release date had Ant-Man opening up on the same weekend as Bond 24...AKA the sequel to Skyfall, a film that grossed more worldwide than The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. At least with this July 31st release date, Ant-Man is opening two weeks AFTER "The World's Finest"

How much longer can they avoid casting Nathan Fillion as a superhero? only time can tell....

As far as Star Wars Episode 7 - December 18th, 2015. December 15th is a Tuesday, and it's very rare for a film to open on a Tuesday(I can literally think of the first Transformers, and that's it) Titanic opened on December 19th, Avatar opened on December 18th...I have a feeling Disney will want to try to duplicate the trend here.

It's going to take an epic promotional campaign to make this movie successful. I just can't see how the average moviegoer is going to be interested in a movie about "Ant-Man."

I never read this comic. Whats the big deal with this stupid ant anyway? Sounds like such a dumb creation. Id be more enthused if it was a movie about The Tick.

Such heroic nonsense on Sep 10, 2013

Do you think a Holiday release for Episode VII is a good idea? What are your thoughts.

I'd settle for a 2115 release date for another Star Wars movie.
