Must Watch: 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Teaser Trailer
by Alex Billington
October 24, 2013
Source: Apple
"To build a better world, sometimes means tearing the old one down, ad that makes enemies." The first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is here, and this looks like one hell of a political thriller infused with the action of a comic book movie. Seriously, the action is incredible here, from the helicarrier taking a big fall, to a quick glimpse of that elevator scene from the image on Tuesday, and an amazing tease of The Winter Soldier himself. Plus, the themes here are resonant of our world today. However, why is Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), even in plainclothes, always carrying his shield. Watch it!
Here's the first teaser trailer for Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, originally from Apple:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo ("Community" and "Arrested Development") with a script from Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World). Chris Evans reprises his role as Captain America, still struggling to adjust to present day life, when a powerful new enemy emerges. Scarlett Johansson also returns in the film as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff along with Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Robert Redford, Frank Grillo and Sebastian Stan. Disney will release the Marvel sequel in theaters next spring starting April 4th.

Looks like the best film so far out of marvel's phase 2

I'm very impressed by the scope of this. I had no idea that Redford was in this. Too bad ScarJo's makeup team decided to give her the red carpet glitz look instead of something more suitable.

Huh? She looks great!

Great for the red carpet, not for actual mission work.

Red carpet... because she has red hair and... my mind - straight to the gutter. 😛

Umm... have you not read the comics? Widow usually has flame-red hair, unless undercover.

Makeup != hair color. I have no problem with her red hair.

I think he'll end up being the accomplice of the villian - aka authorizing development of a program that gets turned to uses different than 'intended'.

I read the story arc comics and it will blow people away on who the guy with the long hair is! This is the Captain America I have been waiting for! YES!!!

Isn't it Bucky?
Brian Sleider on Oct 24, 2013

Pretty sure it's Bucky. I haven't read the Winter Soldier comics so maybe there is some crazy twist, but I know even IMDB says Bucky is the Winter Soldier.

It is Bucky, that I believe was already established.

I don't think it will blow people away. I just hope it doesn't come of as a ZOMG "what a twist" in the Shyamalan way.

Dont remind me of that godawful piece of shit movie! But yeah, you're right. However, i never really liked any of of the Ironman movies. I kept waiting for sequels to remind me how cool this comic was but never happened. IMO they all lacked something. But im stoked about the sequel to CA, well because, the first C.A. i thought was badass (IMO).

Looks like I'm in the minority here. Despite the fact that Chris Evans is note perfect (just as he was for Jonny Storm) this seems to stray far from the Captain America world I remember. Basically if you take him out of this trailer it could pass for any super hyper action movie of late. As someone else said, even GI Joe. What made Marvel was its personal touch, ironic that the movies have always mistrusted that audiences care about real human stories-- until recently-- and yet they still keep going for the more is more mentality.
S freud on Oct 24, 2013
47
"this seems to stray far from the Captain America world I remember." When was the last time you read a Captain America, or Marvel comic?
Simply G on Oct 27, 2013
48
Seems it was sometime around the bay of pigs. Thing is captain America did the impossible, made the colors red white and blue actually inspiring instead of sentimental patriotism. Looks like to me they are backing off of that boldness. I think Banksey knows what I'm talkin about. Aesthetics wilting in the face of politics is a bad bad sign.
S freud on Oct 30, 2013
49
Well, that's a while back. Comics have continued since then! If you're talking about his suit, Cap still dons the colors both in the films and in the comics. However, there were some arcs where (due to the nature of his assignment) his suit changed. The suit you're mostly seeing in this preview is inspired by the Heroic Age Secret Avengers comics (2010). In this comic, Steve Rogers wasn't known as "Captain America" anymore but rather "Captain Steve Rogers." We'll see how the movie takes that aspect of the story and integrates it, if it does at all.
Simply G on Oct 30, 2013

IF that was the teaser, I can't wait for the trailer.
DAVIDPD on Oct 24, 2013

meh... Captain America neither holds the production design, the look or the quirkyness needed to achive sympathy from the audience, or the awe you need to carry a marvel story in your own movie. He was okey in Avengers as part of a team.. but alone he is just "Raimis Spidey at the US flag pole" vomiting effect overkill. Thor, Hulk, Iron Man . . all can hold their own.. But Poor old cptn America just falls through.. . Sadly.

The box office response to the first one disagrees with your stellar commentary.
Brian Sleider on Oct 24, 2013
55
Yes, you are right. My stellar opinion should be controlled by box office. You are really a movie lover i take it 😉 Just because Avatar and Transformers: DotM is top 1 and top 6 grossing, does not make them the best movies made you know. But you you knew that right, cause ur smarter.
Error_Sapiens on Oct 24, 2013
56
Yeh, well that's just like your opinion man. I love when guys like you get bent out of shape when a lot of people disagree with them.
Brian Sleider on Oct 25, 2013
57
I think ur the one bending here mister.. 🙂 bending me into a type, and what I think and feel. 🙂 Lets not get too personal now shall we. Lets discuss movies. Yes and I think the Disquss comment field is for opinions, but I might be wrong, so please enlighten me. 🙂 You just havent made one argument against mine, just using "box office" and "many disagree" .. thats just typical master suppression/domination techniques. If you don`t want to discuss further.., It`s all good. But dont hack and slash at me because my opinion don`t fit well with yours.

Don't have to be "Best Movies" - but can be good movies. For what was promised w/ "Avatar" - jaw-dropping SFX - it delivered. Cameron *never* promised awesome story. As for DoTM - even as a 30 year TF Fangirl, I only saw it twice vs 3x for RoF & 5x for TF07. All the pretty couldn't erase the stink of some horrible death-decisions, and characterization butchery.
VAharleywitch on Oct 30, 2013
59
I totally agree, and they usually are good movies. (Not TF though, they are 2 hours of US war machine commercials) I just made a point out of "box office" not being the definitive proof that decides if a move is good or naught due to the pointless comment from Brian Sleider. But I understand critizising a TRAILER and older movies that stimulates the "overtainment crowd" is pretty silly 😉

Captain America is Marvels best hero on film PERIOD!! Iron Man is fun but Captain America is the ultimate hero over all of the Avengers and I can't wait to see this film! This movie has a more serious and mature tone which after the disappointing Iron Man 3 I am all for. I Would watch a Captain America movie over any other single hero based Marvel film any day.

I also really liked the Chris Evans Captain America movie over all the other superhero films that have been around recently, except maybe Iron Man 1. The ensemble thing does nothing for me (neither does the bland Scarlett Johansson). Only complaint about this trailer is that giant ship crashing at the end -- how many damn times are they going to use that same trailer-moment scene in a movie?

It looks great, out of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America...Cap is the most 'human' of them all. No insane super-suit, no genius intellect, no magic hammer and near God-like abilities, no unstoppable rage and strength. Morally and physically, he is just a "perfect" human. Strong enough to be a superhero, but still human enough to make him compelling.

I want Cap to turn against the Shield...
dawko on Oct 24, 2013
66
I don't think he'll completely turn *against* SHIELD, as that would put a kabosh on Avengers 2... But I can see that by end of CA2, Steve tells Fury in no uncertain terms, he ain't playing those kinds of games, and will be on the up & up, and "visible".
VAharleywitch on Oct 30, 2013

Well, we all know that eventually he'll be against them, if Marvel goes that far into the comics

So it looks as though "Captian America" is now "Captain SHIELD" based on the new uniform and him working for the covert orginization. Maybe the "spangly uniform" as Stark would put it is a little over the top, but it is what it represents that's important. Maybe Cap finds working for a shadow ops orginization not to be to his liking and goes back the red white and blue suit. Either way, I am excited to see how this plays out, and all the usual Marvel twists and secret endings that accompany it.

This is the first trailer I in a long time that made me say WOW! The first Captain America was not my favourite of the Marvel movies by a long way but this has really raised my hopes. I just hope it doesn't end up doing a Agents Of Shield and being a big let down.

now THIS is a trailer that makes me hungry for the film. Nice beats, really doesn't give anything away of the "true" plot (aka the Winter Soldier), but gives a nice "Why are we getting another Capt movie?" Love the line from Steve "That's not freedom, that's fear". Really like how they look like they're continuing to address the "Man Lost in Time" side of Capt's reality.
