Production on Christopher Nolan's new film Interstellar is already underway in Canada with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Ellen Burstyn, Topher Grace, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, David Oyelowo, John Lithgow, David Gyasi,Timothee Chalamet, Mackenzie Foy and Bill Irwin all confirmed as part of the cast. But The Playlist has one more addition with Matt Damon taking a small, unknown role in the sci-fi film. How small? Well, he'll only be shooting in Iceland for two weeks while the production lasts a whole four months. But that's not all in store for the actor down the road.

Though Matt Damon attempted to make his directorial debut with A Promised Land, his Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant ended up taking over the project when it was determined that Damon could not fit the project into his schedule when reshoots for Elysium came into play. But now Damon is trying to get behind the camera again with A Murder Foretold, a real-life drama written by Argo scribe Chris Terrio and based on a 2008 article from The New Yorker about "a man who is gunned down in the escalating violence in Guatemala, and leaves behind a videotape after his death implicating the president, his wife, and other close aides in his killing." A legal investigation followed to find the truth about the murder.

It seems only fitting that Damon would get to make his directorial debut with the writer that helped land Ben Affleck Best Picture with his film Argo. Inevitable comparisons will be made between Damon and Affleck considering their Oscar win as a writing duo for Good Will Hunting, but we're hoping Damon can stand on his own as a director just like Affleck. Paramount Pictures and Indian Paintbrush are behind the project along with Steve Zailian's Film Rites production banner, and we hope Damon learns a thing or two from Nolan before he begins production on his own film.

UPDATE: The project is referred to by THR as A Foreigner in their report on the project, so that might end up being the title as opposed to the one provided by the article serving as the source material.

Could this cast be any better?

I don't think so, it's fantastic. Hearing that they even get someone like Matt Damon for a role that's only going to film for 2 weeks is pretty impressive. Just stacked top-to-bottom.

Cast is great but only with a great script in hand. No offense to his brother, while hes not as bad as Damon "lost" Lindelof, he sure isn't writing award winning material either. I would really prefer a smart Scifi movie. Just saying...

Yeesh - I'm getting a Cloud Atlas vibe from this & getting skeptical as the cast grows. Meh - probably nothing.
