Since the beginning of the year, Emma Stone has been attached to lead Guillermo del Toro's next horror film Crimson Peak set up at Legendary Pictures. However, it sounds like a scheduling issue will keep he from following through with the commitment and now The Wrap reports Stoker and Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska is now in talks to replace Stone in the haunted house thriller which is being kept under tight wraps. Wasikowska would join a still impressive cast that also includes del Toro's Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam, the horror producer's Mama lead Jessica Chastain and Benedict Cumberbatch. Read on!
Again, because the film is being kept under wraps, we don't know much about the story. However, this report of Wasikowska's casting comes with details that she would play a young author named Edith Cushing who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. Otherwise, del Toro has said the film is, "a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern, take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” It would have been nice to see Stone take on straight-up horror like this, but Wasikowska is a great replacement as well. The film is supposed to shoot early next year, so stay tuned.
