More Spidey Villain Clues in Latest 'Daily Bugle' Tumblr Viral News
How many different Oscorp goblins will Spidey be fighting? Ever since The Daily Bugle viral Tumblr blog started posting news stories again, with the first one hitting last week, we've been keeping a close watch for any other updates. Another story has hit the blog talking about the situation for Dr. Curt Connors and his defense trial, where he pleaded "not guilty" to all counts. As expected, hidden in the text are more Oscorp names that relate to a couple of new villains, including Hobgoblin and possibly She-Venom. It sounds like Marc Webb has some big plans for Spider-Man over the next three movies and these news stories are our first hint at what (and who) we might be seeing. Find out who gets mentioned in this The Daily Bugle story.
Here's the text from the latest Daily Bugle news story on Tumblr with the headline "Cold-Blooded Killer?"
A trial date has been set in the New York Appellate Court for alleged bio-terrorist Dr. Curt Connors. The former Oscorp biogenetics scientist has been indicted on twenty city and state counts, including trespassing, malicious destruction of property, theft of private property, aggravated assault, and using a weapon of mass destruction. Connors has pleaded “not guilty” to all counts. It is expected his defense attorney, Anne Weying, will claim Connors was not responsible for the actions of his genetically transformed alter ego, the Lizard.
Connors claimed that pressure placed on him by his employer, Oscorp, led him to rush his bio-restorative formula and test it on himself. He further stipulated to the grand jury that his decision to use the untested compound was made in an effort to protect the company from experimenting on innocent civilians, as directed by his superiors. Connors’ immediate supervisor at Oscorp, Dr. Rajit Ratha, has been missing since the day before the Lizard’s attack.
Oscorp spokesman, Donald Menken, responded, “We can’t corroborate or deny Dr. Connor’s claims. Dr. Ratha’s abrupt departure from Oscorp has left us with far more questions than answers. Needless to say, Oscorp has always complied with the most stringent local, state and federal regulations for all of our research and development.”
So who are the villains in this? Well, first things first, the article is written by Ned Leeds, who in the comics went after secretary Betty Brant before being brainwashed into thinking he was Hobgoblin. Speaking of Hobgoblin, while the real guy, Roderick Kingsley, isn't mentioned by name, there is mention of one Donald Menken from Oscorp. Menken was one of Norman Osborn's loyal employees, and made appearances in the Hobgoblin comic storyline. Aside from Dr. Rajit Ratha (Protogoblin) again, there's the name Anne Weying. This may be a long-shot, but her history involves Eddie Brock (aka Venom) and joining with the symbiote to become She-Venom to save her own life. This is all speculation, but the names must be there for a reason.
In the first 2013 Daily Bugle story, the names mentioned hinted at villains like Hydro, Vulture, Protogoblin and the Spider-Slayers, and now we can add Hobgoblin and She-Venom to that list (though seeing Venom is unlikely this early on). We'll continue to keep an eye out for any other big teases that come from The Daily Bugle. Until then, follow the Tumblr blog and stay tuned for more Spidey viral updates. What do you think?

As long as they're bringing in an appropriate, viewer approved Venom...then bring it on!
