Must Buy: Fully Detailed, Life-Size HAL 9000 Interface Prop Replica
"I am completely operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly." Sci-fi, Stanley Kubrick nerds, get your credit cards at the ready. The ever trustworthy ThinkGeek has debuted a must-have film collectible from Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. They've manufactured a near perfect, fully detailed life-size HAL 9000 prop replica. Essentially, a 14" by 5" aluminum contraption complete with red LED light and "a very rare and expensive Nikkor fish-eye lens." Sweet. This is a thing of science fiction beauty and I want one on my wall already. The only downside - they cost $499.99 each and they're already on back-order. Check it!
Here are a few of the photos as posted on ThinkGeek. I wish I could get my hands on one for a closer look.
"This is it. No silly stories, no funny antidotes (to infectious anecdotes). HAL 9000 captivated us when we first read about him and saw him on the screen. And now, we can have the most movie-accurate HAL 9000 replica ever made. We gave it the boring name of HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica, but we can't waste time with that." As we've already mentioned, the place to get this is ThinkGeek (tip via Uncrate). This HAL 9000 replica is based on the blueprints and studio files from the 1968 movie, and includes digital sound that randomly cycles through 15 phrases from the film. It also features voice activation to trigger HAL's speech. Yes, I would like one. Maybe even two. Why? Because it's so damn cool. And shiny. Good work, ThinkGeek.

I'm surprised you haven't written an article about the $5000+ Star Trek ship replicas?
