"What will you sacrifice for what you believe?" Disney & Marvel Studios have unveiled the first full-length teaser trailer for Thor: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones"), bringing back Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder and Natalie Portman as his lover Jane Foster. They've made things even bigger and more epic, which is the direction Marvel's Phase Two is headed, first with Iron Man 3 then with The Dark World. Besides all the Dark Elves that Thor has to fight, there's another returning face that will make everyone grin - Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, is back. This looks exciting, bring it Thor!
Here's the first full teaser trailer for Marvel Studio's Thor: The Dark World, in high def via Apple:
In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) fights to restore order across the cosmos, but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") directs Thor: The Dark World which arrives in theaters on November 8th in 3D. Excited yet?

This looks infinitely better than the first one, and not just because it seems like Natalie Portman's character dies. I also like the look on Sif's face. This is gonna be sweet!

Lady Sif is like, "that trick over me????"

Kinda feel like that makes Sif as a character very...annoying. I loved her in the first, love triangles are god awful story lines.

Looks nifty, but the whole using the girlfriend as hostage/bait to get to the hero has been done many, many times. I will not further judge it until it's released.

Didn't give me that epic feeling of wanting to see it that a lot of trailers recently has, but I'll definitely check it out. Seems to have less Kat Dennings as well, so that's awesome.

I hope they show off his power this time a bit better. Thor really muted his strength..i mean he's supposed to be almost as strong as the Hulk, and we got to see a little of this in Avengers but I hope they let loose with his powers.
Corey Feldman on Apr 23, 2013
13
I think he is as strong as baseline hulk, but if hulk..hulks out more he quickly is stronger than thor.
Brian Sleider on Apr 23, 2013

When Stan Lee "created/incorporated" Thor into his comics, the concept was to make a hero who was stronger than the Hulk so in essence he is stronger, but not fully as Hulk can hulk out more and give Thor an even bigger challenge, but in my opinion I think it's raging power that matches/beats controlled power.

As I agree they should show more of Thor's physical strength, I feel they NEED to show more badass-ry of him wielding his hammer. Show more tornados forming, crazy intense lightening striking down on enemies, just horrific, stupid insane storms forming and crackling. Plus more slamming the hammer on the ground and creating earthquakes.

What's with every blockbuster trailer having that big bass drop in it nowadays? And I'm not exaggerating, literally EVERY blockbuster trailer has it....starting to get more annoying than its predecessor which was made famous in Inception with the big BWWAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM.

lol - as an audio guy, I'm glad (& sorry) somebody else notices that. It's the new Wilhelm scream!! BEEEEWWWWwwwwwww!!!!

Transformers just used it so much I wanted to puke. Everything was a bass drop with that movie. "Bumblebee I need you!" "BWAWAWAWAWAAAAAAAMMMMM!!"

Me likey the visuals. But to be completely honest, the trailer could've been completely awful and I'd still be lining up day one to see this.

Looks better than the first one, anyway. But I'm getting tired of seeing Loki in every Marvel film.

Yeah, but he has more depth than anyone else's ability....in my opinion.

You mean the actor, or the character? I'm frankly disenfranchised with both.

I would say the nuance he brings to Loki.

I kinda agree, much as I love Tom Hiddleston. On the other hand it makes a refreshing change to the "villain of the week" situation in most other superhero movies. I'm happy to see him in a few more secondary parts.

BWWWOOOOOMMMM Otherwise a good trailer looks better than the first. Would like to see Thor don the his helmet a bit more this time around. IMO its a very iconic piece of his costume.

Definitely has a GoT feel it it, which is a great thing.Thor was/is still a very watchable movie...The Dark World looks to be stronger than its predecssor. Love seeing Loki again, Hiddleson deserves to be in a lot more than just Thor, Avengers, and Dark World...he is just epic to watch.

This might be a dumb/overly logical question - but how are they (and Iron Man, and Captain America, etc) going to explain the rest of the Avengers NOT coming to help out in each of their movies? I assume that they'll be some odd cameos here and there, but is Iron Man busy when the London is being destroyed?
Cameron on Apr 23, 2013
46
I've thought about that, too. If the movies are connected to each other it makes no sense that one hero must save the world on his own. Guess we have to overlook that

Didn't Odin (Ahops) die in the first Thor? I don't remember, unless its a possible flashback. Also, seems like London is the backdrop for most of the recent blockbusters. Skyfall Fast and Furious 6 ST - Into Darkness Now Thor - The Dark World everything is dark!!! lol Wooo woooot!

To me what summed up Thor the most but was lost almost immediately afterwards was him striding into the pet store and demanding "A need a horse!". I wish they'd developed this laughable arrogance for a little longer.

I like that all these upcoming marvel movies are darker, I hope this means the humor goes from juvenile to a bit more sophisticated ..I love most comic book movies no matter how badly done- I usually just appreciate SOMETHING at least but with these movies being done on such large scales I have to say I'm getting pickier. And while I have never been much into Thor his character has touched on the characters I do follow enough for me to demand the helmet. Won't ever stop me from seeing the movies though

It's not just the director that makes a movie work or not. A good movie, as the old Hollywood saying goes, needs three things: a good script, a good script and a good script.
