"You need to get me online. I need more power." Following a series of sneaky viral teaser videos, Warner Bros has unveiled the full theatrical trailer for Wally Pfister's sci-fi directional debut, Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp as a computer scientist working on artificial intelligence system who becomes the artificial intelligence. Morgan Freeman narrated one of the other teasers, but now we get to meet more of the cast: Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Cole Hauser and Paul Bettany. However, this movie is all about the ideas and new technology, and it looks original and enticing in a thrilling sci-fi way.
Here's the first full theatrical trailer for Wally Pfister's Transcendence, via the official website:
Transcendence is directed by Wally Pfister (cinematographer on Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy) and written by Jack Paglen, with rewrites by Alex Paraskevas & Jordan Goldberg. Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. When anti-technology extremists threaten his life, they inadvertently trigger a quick move towards his transcendence, and Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. Warner Bros will be releasing Transcendence in theaters starting April 18th. So?

I wasn't even aware of this film but this helps my cry of 2014 being the year of sci-fi. This looks absolutely great, especially Johnny Depp, finally a film where he isn't goofy.

No more Jack Sparrow acting, I agree.

For three consectutive years now I've heard at least one person say "this will be the year of sci fi". And we've seen some stellar sci if movies in those years what with technological advances in the visual department but I just don't think we're ever going to have a "year of sci fi" if you will.

Wow, not only his frequent cinematographer can make a better trailer but it also looks like he can make a better film! Inter what what now!? There is only Transcedence! Boom, now this is the movie and trailer I've been waiting for. Nothing to do with boring crop fields and history blah blah blah just pure straight up science fiction stuff.

Why are you still on that? We get it, you didn't like a trailer for an unreleased movie. We acknowledge your distaste (even hate), now please stop beating the horse. It's dead.

Jeeze why is everyone still on me for hating the Interstellar trailer, did I even mention it here!? You have your opinions and I have my opinions. If your opinion is wrong I'm not gonna go say like blah blah blah I'll just respect what you say and take it as it is. Right I am praising this amazing trailer to possibly an amazing film named Transcendence directed by a great upcoming director. Leave it be man.

You did mention it here ... that's kinda your entire comment. Literally your whole comment is how much better this trailer is than Interstellar ...

Oh for the love of Subway sweet chicken teriyaki! I didn't mention Interstellar in a type of form to...upset it. Okay I didn't sorry if your still hurt over that matter. I am sorry for my wreckless actions. I apologize to everyone for me having a differing opinion. Put me in a corner of shame and by the mighty beard of Zeus just put that dunce cap on my head with a bar of soap in my mouth. Sorry to make hating comments of your God almighty Christopher Nolan. I am sorry everyone. I now understand that he is our saviour. The trailer was the greatest trailer on this planet and I loved it so much. Now just move on people! Jeeze always bringing it up everytime I'm here I'm sick of hearing that trailer!

It's very simple: If you don't want people to dislike you, then stop complaining about the same thing all the time. Just like in real life, people get tired of that.

Man, I totally agree with you that the Intersteller teaser was a let down. But let it go... it's done... it's in the past... Don't need to bring it up in every article.

I am surprised though they used Wally Pfisfer's name in the trailer. I expected something like "FROM CHRISTOPHER NOLAN" since he was a producer on this. They did that with the 300 2 trailer where they only mentioned Zack Snyder in title card even though he didn't direct the film. I guess they are heavily going on the star power of this film to really sell it.

ditto. Even if the material winds up being a little weaker than one would hope...the cast should be able to keep it quite interesting.

I'm very interested in the concept of singularity and I see a lot of movies in the future coming out about it. This looks like it will be an excellent start.

If he's so smart, he should know that "there" isn't with a 3! 2014 is going to be an entertaining year for sci-fi fans. Btw, how many and which films exist where advanced AI is shown as being positive or atleast not destructive?

Unless AI can have balanced emotions it'll always be scary, without emotions it is intelligent, but only thinks like machine. AI with unbalanced emotions never seems to end well.

Acceptable Trailer Rebecca was more effective than Depp for me. This is truly Nolan Cinematographer work. Same Scope ,Same Color , Same Movements. Dark , Intense and Spectacular Good SciFi

This trailer gives me the impression that this film will have a cheap twist at the end.. Just a hunch. Hope I'm wrong of course.
DavideCoppola on Dec 21, 2013
47
This is a terrifying concept, I love it. I cannot wait to see this film. It's nice to see Johnny Depp in more of a supportive role as this film's eventual villain, as opposed to yet another mind-numbing action blockbuster, where he's shoehorned in as the main star, case in point The Lone Ranger. This film looks phenomenal.
thejon93rd on Dec 21, 2013
48
I agree. It scares the shit out of me. Hopefully it doesn't take the "cheap twist" at the end turn that DavideCoppola indicated.

This is a Nolan Film with a different director, just Morgan Freeman instead of Michael Caine. Everything else is the same. It will be great.
