The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

For audiences who saw The Wolverine over the weekend, 20th Century Fox attached the first gorgeous teaser trailer to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty from producer, director and star Ben Stiller. Now the impressive teaser has arrived online with a great tune from the band Of Monsters and Men to push it along. This looks unlike anything Stiller has done before, and feels like a grand, whimsical sort of daydream. We don't get too much of the story here, but the visuals are stunning, and we get a glimpse of Sean Penn, Kristen Wiig and Adam Scott in the film. Maybe there's some Oscar potential for Ben Stiller? Watch it!

Here's the teaser trailer for Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, originally from Apple:

Ben Stiller directs, produces and stars in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a new adaptation of James Thurber's classic short story with a script from Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness). Stiller plays a timid magazine photo manager who daydreams of exciting adventures, only to get into an adventure of his own when he goes in search of a missing photo negative with Kristen Wiig, Patton Oswalt, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn and Sean Penn also starring. The film will hit theaters everywhere December 25th, 2013.

Impressive trailer. Refreshing to see something so different in terms of editing and montage. I have to say I'm intrigued and look forward to this.

Not only does the film look great, but the trailer is unique too. Not too shabby Mr. Stiller, not too shabby at all. I'm now very interested in this one.

Just seeing these comments considering I rarely get on this site except to comment occasionally. So, in other words if you say you don't think a movie looks good because its overly artsy you're somehow not a movie fan or somehow a troll My all time favorite movie is Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart

Chris Scott on Oct 17, 2013

Its simply the way you worded it. "Wow this looks stupid! Another dumb artsy film." Casablanca is a wonderful artistic achievement so attacking Walter Mitty as another dumb artsy film seems unwarranted...but seeing the backlash that ensued...we came off as harsh...my bad.

Fair enough it happens. In the realm of films and the like maybe I came across kinda harsh as well with my initial criticism of the movie *tips hat* Just simply not my cup of tea though my good friend is stoked to see it

I'm not a big fan of Stiller as an actor, but boy is he showing some good directing skills! This looks like a must see movie!

Just so everyone knows, Fox is taking down YouTube versions of the trailer, and has not provided an embeddable Apple version. You can still watch the trailer at the link to the Apple trailer page above.

Gorgeous is right! When I saw photos of this way back I thought this was going to be another family film in the vain of Night at the Museum or Tower Heist. Color me impressed.

Wow...that was a truly beautiful trailer...the tackling out of the window and jumping into the window shots were beautiful.

That completely changed what I'm interested in seeing this fall. This is now high on my list. What a breathtakingly, good looking film.

How dare you link this apple drivel. I just watched this on Youtube. Looks surprisingly good to be something that came out of the hack Stiller.

Lars on Jul 31, 2013

33

Stiller is hit and miss. I love Zoolander; Tropic Thunder and Mystery Men. It's when is does a movie like, 'Meet the Fockers' where I'm just like... no more please.

lewinston on Jul 31, 2013

34

Lars and Lewinston...that "hack" made over 1.3 Billion dollars with the three Fockers movies alone...so your opinions...probably are in the minority...

Greg Ventura on Sep 1, 2013

35

I'm not sure what your reading from my comment but I think that you think it reads like, "BEN STILLER IS A HACK! FAKE AND GAY!". I can assure you that most people would not read my comment like that.

lewinston on Sep 1, 2013

Am I the only who thinks this looks like an ad? Maybe it's just the sheer change of pace for trailer edits that's confusing me, or the odd shots that look cool, but a little uncohesive? Like slowmo, and then symmetrical shots, and then big open landscape shots, overhead shots. Am I the only one who finds this a bit weird? Maybe it'll work in the flow of the movie but right now it just pulls me a bit out of it. I guess the idea is we're supposed to be focusing on the world around him, more than we focus on him?

JohnIGottschalk on Jul 31, 2013

He's a day dreamer...so I'm sure in the final product it will all work properly.

Xerxexx on Jul 31, 2013

Finally Ben. There's a lil of that 'Cable Guy'/'Reality Bites' spark. Good on ya kiddo....

Duane on Jul 31, 2013

I have the feeling this movie will be something I really enjoy, the same way 'Stranger Than Fiction' made me appreciate Will Farrell. I'm still hoping that they include the original with Danny Kaye on the Blu-ray release. The same way they included the original The Day the Earth Stood Still with the remake, or Death Takes a Holiday with Meet Joe Black.
