Mud Trailer

"It's a hell of a thing, ain't it…" Yes, finally! One of my favorite films of the Cannes Film Festival last year was filmmaker Jeff Nichols' follow-up to the excellent Take Shelter, a Mississippi Delta-set drama called Mud starring Matthew McConaughey. It didn't get enough love at Cannes and was covered up by the foreign films there, but it's playing at Sundance this week and will be released this year. Young actors Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland also co-star with Reese Witherspoon in this fantastic first official trailer, which includes a brief quote from yours truly (from this review). I actually can't wait to see it again! Enjoy!

Watch the first official trailer for Jeff Nichols' film Mud, originally from Yahoo:

Mud stars Tye Sheridan and Jacob Lofland as Ellis and Neckbone, two young boys living on the Mississippi who encounter a drifter with a sordid past, played by Matthew McConaughey. In my review, I described it as "Stand By Me of the Southern Wild because it's a blend of the classic Stand By Me and the charm of Sundance hit Beasts of the Southern Wild." The official description calls Mud "a riveting mystery thriller set in American river country with a stellar cast by one of our greatest new cinematic voices." Yep, I agree. After being acquired by Roadside Attractions, Mud will be released in theaters on April 26th, 2013 this spring.

I love morally ambiguous characters and Mcconaughy had his best year ever in 2012 so this is at the top of my most anticipated list now.

Loved Shotgun Stories and Take Shelter. Can't wait to see this. I know I'm the millionth person to say this, but McConaughey's been doing a great job lately- this, Bernie, Magic Mike, Killer Joe, The Paperboy (didn't care for the plot of the movie, but good performances all around) and upcoming stuff like The Wolf of Wall Street and HBO's True Detective w/ Harrelson. Guy's been killing it.

Local insider tip: The Fugazi tee and the Numbskulz sticker: Fugazi, featuring Ian MacKaye, discovered a thriving teen-driven punk scene in Little Rock that rivaled that of the largest cities in the country. The Numbskulz, of Little Rock, featured guitar lead Jason White of Green Day. Who aspired to work with Trusty. Trusty signed and toured with MacKaye's Dischord label. Major bonus points Mr. Nichols.
