Neil Patrick Harris

Just last week, Jack Reacher and The World's End star Roasmund Pike was tipped as the top choice to take the female lead in Gone Girl, the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel of the same name from director David Fincher. In a story primarily told in flashbacks, Pike is now confirmed to be playing a wife who goes missing on her fifth wedding anniversary, and her husband (Ben Affleck) becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. Other names considered included Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Emily Blunt, Abbie Cornish and Olivia Wilde. In addition, two other names are being eyed for roles. More below!

THR says Fincher is looking at Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry for a couple of supporting roles, though their specific characters have not been revealed. Harris has rarely made turns in dramas on the big screen, so this would be something new for the actor. Meanwhile, Perry doesn't usually star in films other than his own with exceptions being a small cameo in Star Trek in 2009 and taking the lead in Alex Cross. It should be rather interesting seeing these two in a crime thriller from David Fincher if they end up finalizing deals, and there's likely more casting to come, so stay tuned.
