Tokarev

It's been awhile since we've gotten a generic thriller starring Nicolas Cage. And when I say awhile, I really mean only a year. But 2014 will see the release of the oddly titled Tokarev, which finds Cage seeking revenge after some Russian mobsters kidnap and kill his daughter, making him pay for something he did to wrong the gangsters in the past. There's gunshots, concerned cops like Danny Glover and a man willing to do anything for revenge along with all the other cliches we've come to expect with films like this. I'm hoping Cage pays back the money he owes the IRS soon, so he can stop doing garbage movies like this for money.

Here's the first trailer for Paco Cabezas' Tokarev, brought to our attention by JoBlo:

Tokarev is directed by Paco Cabezas (Neon Flesh) and written by Jim Agnew & Sean Keller (Giallo). When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal (Nicolas Cage), he rounds up his old crew of criminals and seeks his own brand of justice. Danny Glover, Rachel Nichols and Peter Stormare star in the film which Image Entertainment will send to theaters sometime in 2014, though no date has been set yet.

There has been a noticeable lack of Cage in the last year. Let's hope 2014 brings us at least three features starring the Cage(d) one.

Seems to be getting his Cage on quite nicely.

Despite the fact that Jon Voight is not in it.

What? Jon Voight's in it. Are you seriously blind? Because he's in it. I saw him. In the back. Behind Cage.

Darn, now I see it. Voight is behind Cage, left from Sly, right from Ahnold. Under Johansson and on top of Lohan.

"I'm hoping Cage pays back the money he owes the IRS soon, so he can stop doing garbage movies like this for money." Well played Ethan.

I understand what you mean, but this trailer sort of lacks most of the ridiculousness of previous Cage movies. So perhaps this is a sign Cage is finding his way back to decent movie-making?
