'Oblivion' Allows 'Jurassic Park' 3D on IMAX Screens One Week Only

Briefly: If you're not already aware, Steven Spielberg's contemporary classic Jurassic Park is returning to theaters in 3D starting April 5th in both traditional and IMAX theaters. However, due to Universal also releasing their new sci-fi movie Oblivion with Tom Cruise exclusively on IMAX screens for one week on April 12th, that means Jurassic Park will only stay on IMAX screens for one week as well. While that seems like a bad move, audiences will likely be inclined to see a new movie in an exclusive engagement, rather than an older one. Plus, people will likely rush to see Jurassic Park 3D in IMAX before it goes away.

this film is worth seeing in whatever the absolute best most badass format there is available.

As much as i love this movie, i have always wished it was a little more adult like the book and less Spielbergish.

I agree. I read the book before I saw the movie back in 1993, and even though the CGI was amazing at the time I was a bit disappointed by the softening of the story. JP will always be a fun amusement park ride to me, but nothing more.

It'll still be in general release as long as possible. It's hitting 2D, 3D, and IMAX theaters...only the IMAX release will be cut short, but everywhere else they will play it as long as they can. The only money being put into this is the conversion and marketing cost, the film has been made. So they are obviously going to promote it and give it as big of a push as they can because it will be extremely easy for them to turn a profit on this particular investment.
