So far we've only seen some first look photos from Paramount Pictures new Jack Ryan film starring Chris Pine as author Tom Clancy's recurring spy character who has been seen in films like The Sum of All Fears, Patriot Games and more. However, the first trailer should be coming soon with the film's Christmas release getting closer and closer. In fact, some test screenings just recently took place according to SlashFilm, and some of the attendees have indicated that the film from Thor and Hamlet director Kenneth Branagh (who also stars in the prequel as the primary villain) is currently going by the title Jack Ryan: Shadow One.
The film follows a young Ryan (Pine), an injured Marine, who is recruited by a CIA veteran (Kevin Costner), and the two to work as end up pitted against a Russian oligarch (Branagh), who is pulling the strings of the financial market and delving into international terrorism with potential global catastrophic results. Keira Knightly, James Earl Jones and Colm Feore also star in the film which isn't adapted from any of Clancy's novels and hits theaters this holiday season on Christmas Day, along with The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Grudge Match and 47 Ronin. Getting excited at all?

Not that I'm complaining, his voice is like velvet, but he's back?

I'm giddy with excitement, but I think it's a typo because the article doesn't mention Costner at all. James Greer is one of my favourite characters from the Clancy universe

judgment reserved until i see it, of course - Branagh vs Costner is certainly of interest, less so more pouting from Knightley. but in terms of the title, another film that has the 'i'm a franchise' aspect front and centre in the title with the dreaded colon of doom. the previous films weren't called Jack Ryan: The Hunt for Red October, etc. if James Bond started now, would all the films would be named James Bond: Goldfinger and so on? surely we can understand it's a series without a colon in the middle or a number at the end? guess not.
