This summer, director Paul Feig will attempt another summer comedy hit with The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy as two cops from different sides of the tracks. It remains to be seen if the film will become as successful as Feig's wedding comedy Bridesmaids, but those are some big shoes to fill. In the meantime, Feig is already lining up his next project, and it seems like he's the man to keep female comedians working on the big screen. The Wrap has word that Feig is developing a James Bond style action comedy called Susan Cooper with an eye towards the project kicking off a franchise for Fox. More below!
Unlike more recent spy comedies like Get Smart and Johnny English, this will take a more realistic approach the the female secret agent element. So it sounds like we might be dealing with something more akin to Beverly Hills Cop or Midnight Run where there's some great comedy, but also a gritty conflict driving the story. Feig is also behind the script and will act as producer on the film that is merely described as a two-hander, not unlike The Heat. No plot details have been made available, but Feig has said the film was inspired by the new Casino Royale, the first film featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond. Interested?
