Philip Seymour Hoffman Joining Tom Hardy in New Thriller 'Child 44'

The cast of the new thriller Child 44 from Safe House director Daniel Espinosa already had some stellar talent in front of the camera including a reunion of The Dark Knight Rises stars Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, not to mention Prometheus lead Noomi Rapace and RoboCop reboot star Joel Kinnaman. But now the cast is even sweeter as Deadline reports Summit Entertainment is in talks with the stellar Philip Seymour Hoffman to join the story written by Richard Price (Ransom and Shaft) and based on Tom Rob Smith's novel of the same name (actually the first in a trilogy) with Ridley Scott producing. More below!
For those not aware, the film follows a security guard and former war hero named Leo Demidov (Hardy) who unquestionably believes in Stalin's rule in 1950s Soviet Union. But when he investigates a series of child murders, the country strips him of his rank and casts him out in order to preserve the illusion of a crime-free utopian society. Demidov struggles to find the truth behind the murders and the real reason the government is hiding them, thinking that his wife (Rapace) is the only one left on his side, when in fact she has some secrets of her own. Hoffman's role has not been specified, but we're just glad he's on board. We'll see him later this year in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and A Most Wanted Man. Cool?
