The Amazing Spider-Man

Fresh out of the rumor mill comes some big news for the future of the rebooted webcrawler franchise. Currently, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is shooting in New York City, and we already know that the primary bad guys will be Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as The Rhino. In addition, Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osborne, though there's been no indication of any Green Goblin activity just yet. However, Comic Book Movie is reporting a huge new rumor that will make the next film in the series packed full of bad guys. First of all, supposedly the already cast Colm Feore will play The Vulture.

*Potential spoilers abound for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 so bewere*

The report says Feore is playing Adrian Toomes, the alter ego of the familiar Spider-Man villain, but that's not the biggest news. Supposedly, The Vulture will end up joining forces with Rhino, Electro and Green Goblin (who they say will end up seeing some action) to begin forming The Sinister Six, which will be the force to be reckoned with in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The Playlist points out that this wouldn't be all that surprising since producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad hinted that the iconic villain group might come together in what would become a new trilogy.

However, what's not clear right now, is which two villains would complete the ensemble. The group has seen Mysterio, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter and Doctor Octopus as part of the group, so there are plenty of options. Right now we're taking this rumor with a grain of salt, if only because this sounds like a lot of action to handle (two villains can be hard enough to execute), but this would be quite an epic collection of villains. There's a chance Spidey dispenses with a villain like The Rhino easily and that leads him to someone like Green Goblin doing nefarious activities, but we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out. Stay tuned for anymore developments. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives on May 2nd, 2014.

Not gonna read past the spoiler warning, but what's the deal with that Venom movie that was supposedly in some kind of early stage, like a year or two ago?

OfficialJab on Jun 10, 2013

Sony probably stymied that idea. They get too involved and ruin movies like SM3

coolit43 on Jun 10, 2013

I like SM3. Venom let me down a bit though, mostly because they made no effort to explore his multiple personality, and because his voice was still Topher's regular voice when in the suit.

OfficialJab on Jun 10, 2013

SM3 was horrible, and i love all movies

Sky on Jun 10, 2013

Oh well. I thought it was hilarious, and scenes like the Subway fight and Peter/Harry's fight stick out as great action moments.

OfficialJab on Jun 10, 2013

Him changing into Venom, when peter parker himself turns into a "badass", that whole part was cheesy and dumb. Some good fights scenes, but i just really dislike it. And LOVE 1 & 2

Sky on Jun 11, 2013

I've seen a lot worse.

cobrazombie on Jun 11, 2013

Yea sure, there are thousands. Its just thats its a bad movie too.

Sky on Jun 11, 2013

Donät want ti be spoiled, but should be Green Goblin (done right).

Spirre on Jun 10, 2013

Carnage or nothing.

Dustin_Fuston on Jun 10, 2013

We would have to settle for "nothing" then. Mr. Cassidy is much too violent and awesome for Disney.

mooreworthy on Jun 10, 2013

Very good point.

Dustin_Fuston on Jun 15, 2013

If they do go that big, they're going to screw it up by having Sony Imageworks do the Visual Effects. They so ruined Superman Returns and Green Lantern and all the other Spider-Man films. They're just not that good.

James Park on Jun 10, 2013

My gut says this is going to be to bloated for it's own good

The Slayer on Jun 10, 2013

I say they should go darker and breakout with Carnage. Jim Carrey should be cast as Cletus Kasady. That would be epic!

Nick M. on Jun 10, 2013

I think this could work well if they handle the villains like they handled the heroes in The Avengers. Introduce them slowly, show the group dissonance, and then have them all come together in a final battle. Spidey did usually have help in defeating the Sinister Six though so there would need to be a Marvel crossover for the heroes somewhere along the line. Does Sony own Blade? I remember him and Morbius helping him on occasion. Anyone else have any other ideas for who could lend Spidey a hand?

MattPeloquin on Jun 10, 2013

Would love to see Mysterio in the mix too.

VoiceOfReason on Jun 10, 2013

They sure pick the blandest supervillains for these movies. (Although I did like Franco's Harry Osbourne.)

cobrazombie on Jun 11, 2013

Venom and carnage are my best bad enemies!

Peter Parker on Jun 11, 2013

Wow, I feel gassy

BinaryChaos on Jun 11, 2013

It seems almost too ambitious to have the Sinister Six. Too many villains for Spidey to handle all at once and not die, unless they're going the Ultimate Spider-Man route and plan for him to spin his last web in the Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Alex on Jun 12, 2013

If they can actually do this remotely right and have it give way to venom in 5 and carnage in 6 I'll be truly happy.

Tim on Jun 12, 2013

Well, the fourth Amazing Spider-Man film is supposed to be a spinoff, this would likely be a Venom film.

RyanBritishSteelWhitelaw on Aug 11, 2013

Am I the only person that wants the Black Cat to be in one of these movies?

Justin Jello on Jun 17, 2013

I don't like the idea of the sinister six. I think electro and rhino will get killed off after spiderman saves Gwen from them. At the end of the movie, Peter will get a phone call to from a mysterious person (not Mysterio) who tells Peter to meet him at the _______ bridge. Peter goes there, sees a suspicious figure on the top of the bridge with Gwen, and watches this "figure" throw her off the bridge. He webs her, snaps her neck accidentally, and screams out to the figure " I will find you and kill you" as the figure flys away on a weird board thing. GREEN GOBLIN
