Searchlight Re-Releasing 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' This Weekend

"I see that I am a little piece of a big, big universe, and that makes it right." Let the Oscar craziness really begin! After earning a solid, and worthy, four nominations at the 85th Academy Awards this year, Fox Searchlight has decided to announce a re-release of Benh Zeitlin's Beasts of the Southern Wild, my #2 favorite film of 2012. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year (in early 2012), which not-so-coincidentally I'm sure, kicks off again this very weekend in Park City, UT. Perfect timing. The film is being re-released and will play in roughly 12 select cities starting on January 18th, this coming Friday. Go see it!
Beasts of the Southern Wild received a total of four Oscar nominations, for: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Quvenzhané Wallis - the youngest nominee ever!) and Best Adapted Screenplay. Impressive for a little film made in New Orleans that no one knew anything about until January. "We are thrilled to bring this special film back to theaters a year after it debuted to standing ovations in Park City. With the Academy Award nominations, we hope Benh’s sublime vision can continue to win over audiences as it has around the globe for the last year," said Fox Searchlight presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula Gilula. It's worth it.
The film will re-release in: Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami and Washington DC in addition to New York City and Los Angeles, where it returns to NYC's Sunshine and Lincoln Plaza theaters and LA's Landmark 12. For more info on the re-release or the film, visit Fox Searchlight's website or their twitter. If you're still having trouble pronouncing Quvenzhané Wallis' name, watch this YouTube of her explaining how to say it. Quvenzhané! One of my favorite films, favorite scores, favorite performances of the year, I can't support it enough. Worth seeing if you haven't yet.

Yeah. It's kind of hard to explain. I like to call it a "gritty, modern fairy tale". I really, really liked it. "I'm a little beast..."

Didn't do much for me either. Didn't hate it though, it was decent imo.

Movies like this and the reaction people get from them depends on many aspects, not only about the movie but the viewer himself, his personality, his mood, his past experiences, etc... For me, I loved this movie. The actors are amazing. The soundtrack is nothing short of a masterpiece. And there's a great metaphorical value in the movie. But in the end, it just felt so original and refreshing when compared with most movies nowadays...it clicked.

This has nothing to do with my mood, personality or past experiences. This movie just sucks.

I have a daughter so this film was emotional and inspirational to me, but talk to me 10 years ago and I probably wouldn't have found as much value in the message.

The movie was insulting.
