Director Bryan Singer is hard at work on X-Men: Days of Future Past, and here and there some little tidbits keep coming to the surface about the sequel. While it seems like the cast is completely filled out, some of the newer members haven't been definitively linked to a specific character. But now with a new post on Twitter from the director, it sounds like we have some more information on new X-Men showing up in the film. Singer posted a Vine video of the cast members chairs on set with character names on them and the names Bishop and Warpath were in the mix, which should be all too familiar to comic fans. More below!
Here's the video Bryan Singer posted to Vine from X-Men: Days of Future Past:
Bishop a member of "Xavier's Security Enforcers", but he was first introduced in Uncanny X-Men after the Days of Future Past comic book arc, so there's obviously something interesting going on here. However, considering Bishop is from a post-apocalyptic future and travels back through time to meet the current mutants, it makes sense for him to get involved with the film. Meanwhile, Warpath is is an Apache Native American with super strength and speed. He initially took on a villainous role after his brother died as one of the X-Men, but he joined the heroesand became a member of Wolverine’s X-Force team.
Considering the recently cast Omar Sy of The Intouchables was rumored for that role, that pretty much confirms his part in the sequel. In addition, since Booboo Stewart is the only Native American member of the cast, we're pretty sure that he's playing Warpath. And just for further confirmation Fan Bingbing is definitely playing Blink, a mutant with the power to teleport herself and large groups of people or objects. This film is just chock full of mutants, and I'm kind of worried it's a little too much. But we'll put our trust in Bryan Singer and can't wait for more from the July 18th, 2014 release.

This is awesome news, as Bishop has been one of my favorite X characters since his debut in the comics. It'll be nice to see him brought to the big screen. But let's be real here, I doubt either him or Warpath will have much screen time considering the amount of characters that have been announced, so this is like good and bad news. Besides, Wolverine is going to take up 80% of the screen time.

I am excited though not surprised. Considering the casting that had been announced quite some time ago, the roles they are playing makes sense. I have said it for quite some time now that X-Men needed more diversity and now it looks like we are getting Bishop (African), Blink (Asian), Warpath (Native American), and possibly Sunspot (Brazilian). Sweet.

This will either be Singers best movie ever, or the seal on his career. I just dont see room for any mediocrity here, its either going to blow us away or fall completely on its ass.

You can watch X-Men: The Animated Series on Hulu, for free. It's in the first season we get this alternative story to 'Days of Future Past', where it's Bishop who travels back in time, not Kitty Pryde. I'm not sure, but I think Reed Richards is also involved, in the Bishop version? Guess that might happen, as FOX owns the rights to both X-Men and Fantastic Four 😉

What about the character of Cable? It's been a good few years since I've seen the animated series but wasn't he in it? For some reason the phrase "body slide to HQ" has always stuck with me. I certainly don't remember all those other new characters. I really hope that they don't put so many characters in that they end up not having the time to actually then develop or even service them. Or of course do the usual, put in loads of characters but then only focus on Wolverine, Xavier and Magneto.
