Now that the first teaser poster and the action-packed first trailer for MGM and Sony's remake of RoboCop has arrived, fans are split on how Jose Padilha's new take on Paul Verhoeven's revered sci-fi film will turn out. While some aspects of what we've seen are cool and nail some of the satirical tone of the original, others just feel like lazy, half-ass tributes to the original film with a glossy finish. We'll reserve final judgment until the film arrives early next year, and the studios have just revealed that the film will unsurprisingly be getting a simultaneous IMAX release when the film hits standard theaters on February 7th next year.

I will not shell out an extra 20 bucks for this crap. This isn't even worth the price of IMAX, they are using it to ploy more people in like 3D. Using the Robocop name just to cash in on it making it some generic modern remake. If your on board with this the only thing your on board with is the studios making a fast buck. I've seen enough with the trailer with the direction where this is heading. I am usually up for remakes if they show enough of a value to an original but not this time. Robocop was just not meant to be remade. It was a film made for it's own time and era something that can not be replicated at all. I truly wish they would have gone for a more original concept or at least a change of the title. To me they just built a movie and slapped the name Robocop on it. Even Peter Weller disagrees on this being better than the original.

I agree with you but I have to correct you on something Robocop is a timeless classic it hasn't aged one bit and that is saying something considering it's not a fantasy movie like Star Wars. The new director for Robocop "2.0" has already said he isn't trying to out beat his predecessor he is just bringing in a new vision of the character but the studio is the one pushing him to make it a generic tale and every idea he brought to the table to bring something fresh they told him no. They have really limited his creative ability when he was pushing something far different from before. He is actually a brilliant guy but it's sad the studios hired such a talent to handle this masterpiece and all they want to do is make a quick buck. If somehow this movie gets a sequel I hope the studios give this director the free reigns to do whatever he wants with a blank check.

Yes I already know about the director, I loved his previous films The Elite Squad series. Unfortunately the studios don't see any further potential in him for creative reigns. I'm not surprised by this as Sony who is producing has done this countless times before. If there is a sequel I hope he makes a wise choice to jump ships. This is not a great way to start for a first US production film experience. When I said it was a film made for it's time I was referring to the vision of the movie and on how they perceived it to be which is much different than today.

This movie will nail nothing. Yes, I'm a hater. I can already tell this will be just another weak remake of a classic original.
