Sound Off: James Wan's 'Insidious: Chapter 2' - What Did You Think?

September 13, 2013

Insidious: Chapter 2

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? It will take what you love most. Now in theaters is the second horror film directed by James Wan this year, a sequel to the 2010 indie hit Insidious. Picking up moments after the first film ends, Insidious: Chapter 2 brings back Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as the parents of a family haunted by a malevolent force from the spirit world. Leigh Whannell & Angus Sampson are also back as investigators Specs & Tucker. So how is this one? Is it as good as the first film, or worse? Once you've seen it, leave a comment with your own thoughts on James Wan's Insidious: Chapter 2.

Spoiler Warning: We strongly urge everyone to actually see the film before reading ahead, as there may be spoilers below. We also encourage all commenters to keep major spoilers from the film to a minimum, if possible. However, this is an open discussion from this point on! Beware of spoilers, don't ruin this film!

To enter The Beyond, I got to see Insidious: Chapter 2 a few months ago and, unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy it as much as I did the first film. I have a soft spot for the wacky (mostly at the end) but otherwise genuinely thrilling original film and I was hoping this would top that one. Alas, it feels even cheaper and surprisingly doesn't have as many worthwhile scares. I never felt afraid of anything and it seemed like they were much more concerned with twisting the story and mixing things together (like the later Saw sequels, go figure) than they were with delivering better scares. That said, I did still like the twists in the story and the way it intertwines with everything, I just wish it was a bit better and I wish it left me chilled to the bone.

What did you think of Wan's Insidious: Chapter 2? Another stellar horror or a bland sequel? We will remove any comments that indicate you have not seen the movie, as this area is meant to discuss the film only once you have seen it and can talk about your thoughts. Please keep the comments civilized!

Loved it. First one still the best but I like how they didnt try for overkill and the story was great. They could have went in many different directions. 7/10

Seconded, I didn't see the first one but enjoyed this and had a blast which is what I want from my horror movies.

Serviceable. It was not bad, but I liked the first one better. This one hit all the beats of Psycho, Poltergeist, and The Shining. You could get your inspiration from worse movies though.

Not scary, but good. It's not meant to be a scary movie, but the plot twist and the story makes you keep your attention in the movie! However if you're looking forward to get scared, the only scary thing will probably be the people at the theater yelling for fun.

I say Fast & Furious 7 OFFERING impact on wan 's directing skills. Anyway , plot is weak and screenplay is not compatible to conjuring. Perfunctory Work. 6/10 PITYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

My wife and I went to go see this last night. As a fan of the first, I rather enjoyed the second. A must see in my opinion. Horror movies are bland and boring now with the exception of these films and Sinister.

Insidious 2 had some really solid moments, that like the first one will not be easily forgotten. There was some inconsistent film quality throughout, overall very enjoyable scary movie to watch, and very creative story to weave into the first one. thanks for not ruining it with CGI James Wan!

As a fan of the horror genre, I loved it. It was a perfect mix of story and scare. Horror movies like Insidious and Silent House are rare, in terms of the staying old school, not crapping CGI all over it and not using a HD camera. I recommend this movie to any one who loves a good scare flick, but don't watch it when the theatre is packed. For obvious reasons. I loved the first one, I loved the second one, and I'm sure I'll love the third one. I just hope it ends at part three.

James Wan has left the horror genre. Apparently a third one is moving forward without him, but I hope it leaves their family behind, and follows Specs and Tucker. That would be a respectful way to continue on.

Tour de force for Patrick Wilson. These would make an outstanding double feature. Hell, I'd like to see them edited together into one long film.
