Sound Off: Justin Lin's 'Fast & Furious 6' - So What Did You Think?

Fast & Furious 6 Sound Off

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? They're back again. All roads lead to this. In theaters now is Justin Lin's Fast & Furious 6, the latest action-packed, NOS-fueled, adrenaline-filled sequel in the Fast and the Furious franchise started in 2001. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez and many more return from the fifth movie to continue an international chase for a ruthless villain played by Luke Evans. Is this one better than the last movie? Is this the best one yet? If you've seen it, leave a comment with your own thoughts on Lin's Fast & Furious 6.

Spoiler Warning: We strongly urge everyone to actually see the film before reading ahead, as there may be spoilers below. We also encourage all commenters to keep major spoilers from the film to a minimum, if possible. However, this is an open discussion from this point on! Beware of spoilers, don't ruin this film!

Note: I haven't been able to see this yet, as I have been at the Cannes Film Festival for the last two weeks. However, in the meantime, we can start the engines with this quote from our own Jeremy Kirk's review: "The action in Furious 6 energizes the audience, but the story here energizes the bonds of all of these characters. That's needed where Furious 6 ends up, full circle to Tokyo Drift and evidently the end of Lin's run at the steering wheel. His four-film arc has allowed the Fast and the Furious series to transcend beyond the entertainment value of the first film as well as the general laziness of 2 Fast 2 Furious, the second film."

What did you think of Justin Lin's Fast & Furious 6? Best movie in the franchise or worst yet? We will remove any comments that indicate you have not seen the movie, as this area is meant to discuss the film only once you have seen it and can talk about your thoughts. Please keep the comments civilized!

no shit. no one is watching this for the acting or the stellar plot lining.

Great for the fanboys and the people who have been following this franchise (like me). I thought it was a little rushed, They got the point very quick and early in the movie. It did not escalate as much as Fast Five. The movie itself is not a letdown, it has some great action and some cool references to the previous installments (that again will please the F&F Fanboys).

Luis Eduardo Ortiz on May 24, 2013

I enjoyed this movie, as much as the last...I thought the fights were the highlight of this movie..some of the night scenes were not shot with enough lighting as you couldn't see a lot of the action going on, overall a pretty exciting film. I need to go back and watch FF #3 now, because of the suprise ending!

jah p on May 24, 2013

yes. me too. i loved it

Totally silly but I did actually enjoy it. Sorry. I know.

Isildur_of_Numenor on May 26, 2013

hahaha, it was like a cartoon, I loved character's abilities to be able to fly and do ninja moves. After watching it, I put a new engine in my Fiat Panda, drunk a bucket of steroids and hit the gym.

Carpola on May 26, 2013

Hehe, nice! If it's like Fast Five, and it sounds like it is, then I'm going to enjoy it. Cheers!

Isildur_of_Numenor on May 27, 2013

The writer of this article incorrectly identified Sung Kang as a foe. Sung Kang plays the character of Han, an ally of Dominic Toretto, not a foe. Get your facts straight.

GT on May 24, 2013

do not come into this movie high browed expecting award winning acting. this is a great summer movie that is rewarding to those who followed the previous movies. perfectly ridiculous stunts and mind numbing action sequences. the movie knows what the target audience wants and delivers it.

joecartoon22 on May 24, 2013

i lovvvvvved it. amazing better than five. as this series evolves it get better and better. with jason statham in the mix fast 7 is gonna be amazing.

.♥Sasha-Kay D.♥ on May 24, 2013

Oh, my...

capitandelespacio on May 25, 2013

Statham can finally be in something that feels like it shouldn't have gone straight to DVD.

sohodiva on May 25, 2013

As noted by pretty much everyone who's seen it, it wasn't brilliant but god damnit if its not a fun fucking movie. Dwayne killed it as he always does and the rest of the cast did what was necessary. 7/10

Jon Odishaw on May 24, 2013

it was of the hook,it's definitely the best one Ive seen in the franchise....cant wait for fast 7.

monwabisi on May 25, 2013

Honestly it was such a fun movie. It is beyond ridiculous and stupid, but on a pure escapism level it succeeds where so many fail! Can't wait for Statham in 7!

cagestin on May 25, 2013

I didn't realize I was watching the Man Of Steel early. Because Vin Diesel is clearly Superman in Furious 6. Outside of Gina Carano's academy award winning performance (that was a joke) this film is easily the most absurd of the franchise. Parts of F6 are fun, but a convoluted plot, with terrible, frenetically chopped up action set pieces, and an overextended run time, make this film cumbersome and dull by the end. Did I mention Vin Diesel plays Superman? Is that Dom? Nope, it's Superman. If you're looking for a fun drinking game, every time the word "family" is said, take a drink! You might enjoy the movie more this way! Save your money, Furious 6 is a Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (aka Samoan Thor) sized turd.

quazimotto on May 25, 2013

Perfectly said.. I swear to god perfectly said.. Furious 6 was just.. too much.. but in any case, it's more fictional than reality to me. What with all the ridiculous stunts and lines. Gina's acting was the most boring, while Dwayne's acting was probably the most entertaining.

ali3000 on May 26, 2013

Well first off, hypocritical: survey for people who have seen it but yet author hasn't, lol. And I loved the movie, till the part where Han and, major part AND Gisele die. Like, the first blow where Gisele dies was a heartbreaker. But then just at the end with no meaning, Han dies as well?!?! My two favorites are gone... I didn't expect it to not have cheesy ass parts. Like Dom catching Letty? Why didn't fucking Han catch Gisele. Vin Diesel was very much an invulnerable superhero

Brandon on May 25, 2013

Han was my favorite too, but I wouldn't say his death was with no meaning. It was tying the franchise back to his death in Tokyo Drift and revealing Statham's involvement. That said, do you believe in ghosts?

NG on May 25, 2013

Here I was thinking they was going to use FF:TD as the bookend to the series and now they put a swerve

John Rios on May 25, 2013

See if you can catch the obvious movie mistake with The Rock's Goatee clearly shaven off in the evening Hummer driving scene and back fully the next day (capturing Shaw's henchman). Hillarious.

realman on May 25, 2013

I caught this...too funny

John Rios on May 25, 2013

I did catch the goatee and thought the same thing, but then I realized that they did take an 8 hour flight to spain, so it wasn't like it was the same scene but yet they still shouldn't have let that slide.

batsupe on May 26, 2013

Just saw this the other day with my son. Loved the movie but I caught the exact same thing in the Hummer son missed it. And of course the very next scene, in daylight, he had the goatee again! Maybe they digitally add it in before it gets to Blu-Ray

Mike on Aug 5, 2013

Great movie even more action than Fast Five! Love how they tied everything up with Tokyo Drift at the end. The addition of Jason S. is also going to be great!

Pj4u on May 25, 2013

It was great pounding action throughout the movie. The only guy Dwayne of course looked great with a shirt on. I mean there should be more of the males body shown not just a bunch of girls... Being that this is the 6th movie, by now it should please all types of audiences. Woman wanna see hot chiseled bodies too wth! (Some guys don't hate) As far as some of them dying... Well that has to happen at some point "the family" can't always win with no reprucutions. I can't wait till 7!

Furious Fan on May 25, 2013

I had fun, everyone was into it at my theater. btw Han is the best character in the whole series but he was better in TD where he wasn't fighting for screen time.

si1ver on May 25, 2013

This movie is regurgitated retardation in a bottle, perfect for the established fan base.

Joe on May 26, 2013

Yes!!! This movie sounds like my kind of movie. Thank you!

nate on May 28, 2013

Good Movie! If you are a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise then you will really enjoy this movie!! Having said that I think I enjoyed Fast Five a little more. It was great to see Dom and Hobbs on the same side this time but I was hoping for a little more dialogue and interaction between the two. There was a lot of over the top but very entertaining action, and it was probably the funniest one of the series with a lot of the comedy coming from Tyrese's character Roman Pierce. This movie was very entertaining to say the least and the way they reconnected the story line and wove in a few characters from the 4th film was pretty cool too. A lot of fight scenes took place in this one with just about every character having there time to shine in that respect. I was hoping for a little more individual character attention outside of the action sequences but this one did have the best villain that the gang has faced so far so that made up for it. There was a team vs. team theme to this movie that we really haven't seen before and I thought that added kind of a cool element. All in all with the surprise post credits scene allowing you to see the bad ass villain that Dom, Brian and the rest of the crew will be facing off against in the next one this movie was pretty freakin sweet! IF YOU LIKE THIS FRANCHISE GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

batsupe on May 26, 2013

I love this movie so damn much!!!! Great job on everything! Sad to see Gisele and Han gone that was a heart breaker! But glad to see letty and Dom back together! This is a great movie to show the world criminals aren't always as bad as we make them out to be (some)! Show ppl the meaning of a true family!!!! I love you fast and the furious actors!!!! Can't wait for next summer!!!

Krystal ♥ on May 26, 2013

Yes, keep giving the studios a reason to make more shit. Fast 6. Shit on top of shit. Wow. You loved this movie? pssst. I think Joe said it best. Retardation in movie making which makes the studios happy because people are dumb enough to 'enjoy' this pos.

Guest on May 26, 2013

Fun popcorn flick. Great escape from real life. Don't expect a masterpiece.

Qrious on May 26, 2013

I liked it overall. Some of the acting bugged me. The cop chick that hung out with the Rock fought like an soldier but her acting skills were dry. Also there were several scenes where Tyrese Gibson didn't seem to be into his role either. Other than that it was good.

VoiceOfReason on May 26, 2013

Funny how people say if your a fan of franchise you have to see this, i was a fan till this garbage. Now they are going way over the top! Should just call it Transporter 3.5. Example 1: The Rock tossing around that 250 pound guy on wires like he was a bottle cap. 2: The Rock jumps from a car at 100 on the overpass, down and lands on another car doing 100, gets thrown from the car and just rolls and smiles. 3: Just at the exact moment the diesel hits the rope at 80mph on the commercial, they just happened to hit the gas inside the tank in the back of diesel and escape lmao! Action scenes were so stupid i walked out on the tank doing 90 down the freeway. They tried way too hard. Just saved you 7-15$

Before I get into this I want to preface it by saying that I've been a fan of this franchise through it's highs and lows... by highs I mean part one and five and by lows I mean Tokyo Drift and "Fast And Furious" (aka Part 4.) Maybe I'm being biased with 2 Fast 2 Furious but it's filmed in my city and Ludacris did create one of my favorite songs from his catalog for it ("Act A Fool"). It's still a pretty bad film nonetheless. These movies are clearly not meant to win oscars... they're aimed at a certain demographic and for the most part they hit their mark. It's a popcorn flick with bad dialogue... I take it for what it is. It's tried moving away from being a racing movie to become just an action film... I liked that. It's better than portraying the racing life as a big hip-hop music video... I've been to many car meets/street races and have never seen a chick with her ass hanging out of her dress while she models on a car... Maybe I'm going to the wrong ones, but it doesn't help the racing stigma. I had so much hope for the series after Fast Five or The Ghetto Oceans 11 as I like to think of it..... It was going in such a good direction and the action was RIDICULOUS... I mean, am I the only person that remembers that scene on the bridge with the vault? They were going through Rio straight massacring the police with A VAULT... With that being said... my expectations were high for Fast & Furious 6. I had gone several times to try to see it and every time it was completely sold out. Well, I finally saw it yesterday and my only thought was WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT! DAMN! I was so let down... A lot of people talked so highly about it too.... Those are the same people who's word I will never trust when it comes to movies again! The movie starts right after the last one... exactly like the commercial shows... There's no time for lollygagging or character development because you're just thrown right into the story. It was extremely rushed, you weren't even 10 minutes in and you already know exactly what's happening... villain and all. Dom is living in paradise with his new chick (the Rio cop in the last film) when the Rock finds him and tells him they need him for a job... Vin Diesel: Im done with that life The Rock: Letty is alive Vin Diesel: Nvm LOL, what was the job? and just like that the gang has to reunite... because "YOU NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON FAMILY" ... that's all Vin Diesel has been saying this entire series to the point that this entire story is based on his inability to turn his back on those he cares about. The opening credits felt like a shitty TV show. It showed clips of the past F&F movies with the actors names over it. After that "Fast & Furious 6" comes on screen with all the characters (both dead and alive) walking toward the screen... No lie, it felt like I was watching a USA drama.. One of my least favorite things about this series is some of the terrible CGI they always seem to have. It got better in Fast Five but then this one reverts right back. I don't think it was just a CGI problem though, I think some of the stuff that happens is just so over the top that the CGI makes it unbearable. Some stuff that happens is so over the top that I felt I was watching Machete... Vin Diesel is Unbreakable in Justin Lin's eyes. Flying headbutt anyone? One of the positive things I can say it that I really did enjoy seeing Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez back on screen together. They have such great chemistry in these roles. They brought Letty back in such an uncreative manner but... I'm glad they did nonetheless. The villain was cool, in the first half. He's really calm and that kinda makes him eerie and mysterious.. until half-way through the film when he's in a tank... then you just think he's a jealous little boy. The fact that his goons were a replica of Dom's "family" and Tyrese actually points that out is so damn cheesy. It's like... The Rowdy Ruff Boys. Speaking of Tyrese... he was the perfect comedic relief in the last movie but what happened? It was like they didn't care and just wanted to make him the idiot of the group who can barely contribute anything but being annoying. Ludacris: It's not bad enough we're chasing cars, now there's an airplane? Tyrese: That's not an airplane, that's a freakin' spaceship... No Tyrese, that's an airplane. The Rock better have a lifetime supply of Under Armour with all the damn product placement. The big plot twist at the end didn't excite me for part 7 at all... Am I supposed to be excited that they got an action star who's last "good" film was THE EXPENDABLES to be the villain? Sadly, I cannot pretend I won't go see it regardless. -___-

rolyjimenez on May 31, 2013

i didnt like the after the credits scene... you can tell theyre just clearly milking this franchise but really?... Jason Statham? He's a good actor but everyone just keeps hiring him to replay his character from The Transporter

Said on Jun 6, 2013

Easily best one of the series. How is it that Fast and Furious just gets better and better. I thought I would hate the new direction moving from street racing to heists but It keeps getting better!!! So does the music. Cars don't though lol prefer sports cars to America cars but the Story is just immense. And it was great they brought it full circle back to the street roots. Maybe Fast 7 will go back to Street racing? Great to have Michelle back in her role. I thought it was wrong to 'kill her' off in Fast 4. I absolutely freaking adored Fast 6, The story, the togetherness, the plot everything was pitch perfect. People dissing the flying bit Dom did. Um this is Hollywood guys they have to do something dramatic and I thought that scene was fine. Watched the movie twice now since catching it for the first time yesterday 😀
