Big news for fans of The Expendables, as Stallone has lined up a few other big names for the next sequel. After rumors for months that Mel Gibson would be appearing in the film, Sylvester Stallone has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Gibson will indeed be in the movie. And, as rumored, he will be playing the main villain, the "bad buy" in the next Expendables sequel due out in August of 2014. In addition, Stallone confirmed that Spanish actor Antonio Banderas will appear as well. Stallone referred to Banderas as "a consummate actor and a gentleman" in a statement about his casting. They're rounding up quite a selection.
The Expendables 3, written by Sylvester Stallone and directed by Patrick Hughes (Red Hill), includes all the guys from the past two: Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger (who showed up in the second movie). Last week it was confirmed that Bruce Willis would not be returning, instead Stallone nabbed Harrison Ford for a role even though it may just be a cameo. Now we can add both Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson to the kick ass ensemble cast, officially. Which tops things off in a huge way because this already has Milla Jovovich, Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan and Kellan Lutz involved, too. Shooting begins later this year for an August 2014 release.

I find it hard to believe that Stallone and Willis are having that much trouble...I mean they started a restaurant business with Ahnold.

Sweet! Love Mel Gibson! and Antonio B. These movies haven't been the greatest, they are a bit campy and corny lol but they are still entertaining. I love what sly has created with this franchise bringing all these great icons together, I just wish they would make these movies a bit more serious and epic and not so CHEESY lol.

Cool. Though, I'm weary that Sly's scriptwriting will incorporate lots more cheesy references--this time, "Road Warrior", "Desperado", etc., it would be cool if he comes up with something serious and special. All these action icons would definitely merit a worthy script. This is a perfect chance to re-invent the franchise.
