'Star Trek Into Darkness' Moves to Open in Theaters One Day Early
Paramount has officially announced that the release of J.J. Abrams' sequel Star Trek Into Darkness has been moved up a day to coincide with the IMAX sneak preview screenings on Wednesday night. For the last few weeks, tickets have been on sale for early IMAX sneaks in select cities on Wednesday at 8PM. Now, Paramount has revealed that Star Trek Into Darkness will then open in theaters everywhere the following day, Thursday, May 16th, instead of waiting the extra day inbetween for the original day - May 17th. That's good news for anyone anxious to see this (including me!) as it means we get to experience this even sooner.
Paramount/Bad Robot's Star Trek Into Darkness, directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci & Damon Lindelof, features roughly 30 minutes of footage filmed with IMAX cameras. Wednesday night IMAX 3D previews, via IMAX.com, are now sold out in LA, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Houston, San Diego and Minneapolis. However, the movie will be opening in all theaters - IMAX and regular 2D/3D showings - starting on Thursday, May 16th. Which means there will likely be midnight showings on Wednesday for those who didn't get an early IMAX ticket. Trek is a big opening this summer and I hope everyone heads to theaters for the complete experience.

This is not news to me .... I bought my tickets for 7:30 PM on the 16th (a 3D, non-IMAX showing) through Fandango over two weeks ago. Unless, as you speculate, there will be showings earlier than 7:30 on Thursday ....
