Must Watch: Third Amazing Trailer for Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel'

"You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards." Now that is one hell of a trailer. From the slow, dramatic building music running throughout to the introduction of Michael Shannon as a wild-eyed General Zod, this is a Superman we haven't seen before in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. The action looks unbelievable, the emotion runs strong throughout, and the way the people seem to treat Superman like an alien god as opposed to a superhero is really interesting. I'm most intrigued by that conversation with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) at the end. This seriously looks like something special for Superman fans. Watch now!
Watch the third theatrical trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, posted on Warner Bros' YouTube:
A child sent to Earth from a dying planet is adopted by a couple in rural Kansas. Posing as a journalist, Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) uses his extraordinary powers to protect his new home from an insidious evil.
Man of Steel, the new DC Comics Superman reboot, is being directed by Zack Snyder, of Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen & Sucker Punch previously. Christopher Nolan is producing, and co-wrote the story with David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Unborn, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), who wrote the script. Warner Bros is bringing Man of Steel to theaters everywhere June 14th this summer. Will you be there?

Good, not ridiculously good tho, which I'm almost ok with because these days it seems trailers show to much and set a bar that's impossible to reach. I must say it will take some getting used to not having, at least I think we won't, the usual music.

Have to admit that im underwhelmed. I spotted a few kinda weak cgi shots. Kinda make me remember.'ah this is zack S work after all'. And thats not a good thing. And that music? I hope its not final score. Still, will watch it of course. Always hope for a good movie.
Sascha Dikiciyan on Apr 16, 2013
6
Agreed. Some shots look really weak and I hope as they are doing 3D conversion, they are polishing the VFX...The music was there to set the whole tone of the movie, which I think is pretty clear to everyone now. But hopefully won't appear in the movie 😀

I have faith in the 3D, (we can see the potential in this scenes) Snyder is a visual beast. This could be the movie superman needs and the fans deserve

Is Sony Imageworks doing the effects again? Superman Returns and Green Lantern were so bad. I'm really worried about the CGI Zod costume.
James Park on Apr 16, 2013
13
The effects are not fully responsible of the effects studio. you need a Director who have the vision and can understand. Be the controller on fails. The example is directors like Stephen Sommers who had great effects companies like ILM and Digital domain, and the results are hideous. That's why i have faith in Zack's vision and critical eye

the costumes aren't CGI, just Superman's cape. the suits are real.

I really appreciate them basically keeping the antagonists out of the trailer for 95 percent of it. This is an excellent trailer.

The thing that always set Superman apart from other comic book heroes like Batman, Iron Man, etc, is that he stood as the ultimate symbol of untarnished goodness. He doesn't have the moral grayness of Batman, or the arrogance and conceit of Iron Man - he's literally a god. That's what set him apart, and that's why Snyder's well-realized reboot of his character seems so different. This trailer almost beats you over the head with it: Superman is someone to aspire to, a set of traits worth instilling in yourself. I think this will be excellent.

The music tone of this trailer with the sounds of the drum beats seems like it came out of Africa or Atlanta's drum corps of color. Thumbs up for the drum beats as this will rock the house come J14tH

Much like The Dark Knight, this is the Superman we deserve. Zack Snyder, Crhis & John Nolan, David S. Goyer, and company have done it. They have brought us the Superman that will change our world. I cannot wait for June 14th. at midnight to witness Man Of Steel! I cannot say this will be a complete success, but what they have shown us so far looks very promising indeed.

Awesome, a must see over and over again! Predict at lease 600 Million US box office total.
Movie_Aficionado on Apr 16, 2013
25
Your Box Office prediction is fairly accurate as to what I would believe this movie could make. But I surely do hope this movie stands out, does extraordinary critic wise, and breaks the 1 Billion$ mark.
Luis Eduardo Ortiz on Apr 16, 2013
26
Highly unlikely. The Dark Knight grossed $533M domestic, riding a huge wave of hype following Heath Ledger's death. The Avengers, the biggest comic book movie of all time (at least until Avengers 2), grossed $623M domestic. Zack Snyder's highest domestic grossing film, 300, took in $210M. Man of Steel lacks the familiar lead the first two movies mentioned had. Cavill has yet to become the household name Christian Bale and Robert Downey, Jr are. I think this *will* be Snyder's highest grossing film to date, but just barely. I'm thinking more along the lines of $210-230M domestic.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
27
It's Superman, not some other superhero. Why don't you go look for how much the lst spiderman movie made and compare, given that the audience will go see something that they already thing they are going to like. IDK how much Superman Returns made, but considering that this one seems to have the action that the last one lacked and much more...then this movie will, at least, make 300M domestic.
Randomcomment on Apr 16, 2013
28
I'm simply looking at what similar movies are making and explaining the reasons why I believe they made what they made. The original Spider-Man was flush with recognizable talent and provided one of the first excellent superhero experiences in cinema in the 00s. Man of Steel features less recognizable/recently relevant faces, is coming from a director with a tarnished reputation, and faces a stiff summer blockbuster lineup. Superman Returns had high expectations, did not deliver, and turned in just over $200M domestic.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
29
Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russel Crowe, Laurence Fishburne..... these are less recognizable faces?????
bigmikeg23 on Apr 16, 2013
30
oh i almost forgot Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, this movie has oscar winners and nominees coming out the wazoo
bigmikeg23 on Apr 16, 2013
31
Than Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and Willem Dafoe? Yes. I'm looking at this from the standpoint of the general audience - the people who don't care as much about awards as the people on this website.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
32
Did you just say gladiator and morpheus are less recognizable than dunst and james franco? Or did I read that wrong?
Cody W on Apr 16, 2013
33
Yes, I'm saying actors from two movies thirteen (Gladiator) and ten (Matrix: Revolutions) years ago aren't as relevant anymore.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
34
Dude your not making any sense. Your just makin shit up to defend a point that had nothing to back it up in the first place.
Cody W on Apr 16, 2013
35
I just listed two factual dates. That is not making stuff up. I'm stating that if you're identifying these actors (great actors, in all rights) by movies that were made more than a decade ago, they may not have the draw that they used to. Broken City didn't even bring in $20M. The last thing Fishburne was in was Contagion, which took in $75M, and he was in one hell of a cast in that movie.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013

plz get off the crazy train at the earliest possible stop! regardless of when these actors last had a huge hit they are known names in the industry.

Okay, to you and Big Mike: I am not saying that I think this movie is going to suck. I think it will be great. I have loved everything Snyder has put out, including Sucker Punch. On top of that, my estimated $210-230M is not a paltry sum. I don't think it will bomb. Worldwide, I would expect Man of Steel to push $450M, easy. I'm simply looking at this as someone who loves movies and has followed movies and their box office receipts for years. I'm not claiming I know for sure. I'm estimating. I'm not trying to insult either of you by disagreeing; I'm stating my own personal opinion. I could be completely wrong. But so could you. So, let's put this to bed, support the film in theaters, and see how much money it makes. Good day. I'm not responding to anything else you comment with.

43
Spider-Man was released in 2002.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013

whenever, my point is Franco and Dunst were not bankable actors back then, and Maguire was not a blockbuster name.
bigmikeg23 on Apr 16, 2013
45
Alright, but you don't think that Superman + Insane Visuals + Insane Action + good drama and big names (director, producer, movies etc..) will draw in that audience in order to deliver that kind of gross? Don't forget that Donner's Superman had a unknown actor for the role and look how that turned out. We just have to see people's reaction to it, but I feel it will actually be satisfying for all if not must of us.
Randomcomment on Apr 16, 2013
46
The visuals, action and drama are, at this point, up in the air. Trailers fool us all the time. I actually think this will be a great movie, but I'm not sure audiences will embrace it. They remember being disappointed by Superman Returns, and they remember (apparently, judging by returns) not enjoying Sucker Punch.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
47
Dude you take the audience's point of view waaay too seriously. It's like politics, they hated you when you started or half way and with the years they all forget how bad you were being (governor, president, ect...) So you convince them promising made sweet candies and bam! you got them again. 🙂
Randomcomment on Apr 16, 2013
48
I do agree that the name Superman will be the most bankable of them all. Snyder, Nolan, Crowe and Costner are reasonably bankable as well. As far as I can predict these things of course...
Rick on Apr 16, 2013
49
Lol, Before Spiderman 1 Franco was best known as Officer #2 on the X-Files season 8 episode 8...Kirsten Dunst was best known from Bring It On and as a child in Interview With a Vampire....but they were more relevant then than Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburn, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, and Henry Cavill is today? Okay, agree to disagree...
Kelly Bond on Apr 20, 2013
50
So ur basing B.O. on the director not the fact that it's a Superman movie? Spiderman 1 had Tobey Maguire, who up until that point was more a art house/ dramatic actor, it doesn't matter if Cavill isn't a household name. Superman is.
bigmikeg23 on Apr 16, 2013
51
Read below. I also bring up the returns for Superman Returns.
the_situasian on Apr 16, 2013
52
Before Batman Begins, Bale was not as popular as you might assume. He didn't have a massive hit to his name. The Machinist? Captain Corelli's Mandolin? Shaft? Although Bale had a larger resume, he had to prove he was a good Batman, as Cavill will have to prove he's a good Superman. I agree this won't do a billion domestic, but 210-230? Nah. I say 400.
PBGray on Apr 17, 2013
53
My estimation would be more around 400 million US, which will be about 50% of the world wide box office. I think Superman is bigger in the states then anywhere else, it will be a harder sell in Europe. But I do have high hopes for this movie, the names attached, and the visuals, got me excited!

Looks fantastic. I love the visuals, the cinematography, the music...it feels like it's taking an approach in the spirit of the original film, make it more of a straight-forward Sci-Fi film.
Chris Groves on Apr 16, 2013
57
I wasn't that excited for this with the previous trailers but this one definitely got my hopes up. It looks gritty and raw, something which we've never seen in a superman movie. Also why was Lois Lane interrogating superman? Isn't she just a reporter?

So they took the JJ Abrams idea about Kal-El leaving not because Krypton was destroyed, but because he had to flee due to a civil war with Zod... I'm not feeling it. Zod's suit reminds me of Green Lantern's. What a debacle that was. Snyder's last few films were huge disappointments.

But I see your point...My biggest question is, how does Superman get ever defeated by someone, when he is faster than a bullet, I mean, he could avoid any punching, missiles, literally anything, and then you see how he is defeated by plenty of villains in comic books...let's not mention that green dildo in SR.
dawko on Apr 17, 2013
81
I'm not someone who holds a PhD in comic books and stories, so I don't know much about who defeated who in the past. But just to address Superman's speed, I would assume a (super)villain could get passed that by creating a situation where he knows where Superman would end up after "dodging said bullet" (whether it's a bullet or something else). An example of the top of my head could be the final fight in The Chronicles of Riddick, though most likely requiring far more planning. Superman's speed and reaction must be finite. So I guess what I'm just saying is it's possible by great strategy.
