TGB Episode 144: The Golden Die Hards (Guest: Liam O'Donnell)

February 21, 2013

TGB - Die Hard Bruce Willis

On this week's episode of The Golden Briefcase, Tim and Jeremy are joined by Liam O'Donnell of Hydraulx Entertainment to go through their latest picks of the week, the newest in DVD & Blu-ray releases, new trailers for Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers and Danny Boyle's Trance and more. The main topic of the night was a discussion on the Die Hard Franchise, in honor of John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard in theaters now. The guys talk about the strong and weak points of the series, what makes a good Die Hard film and also about the multitude of Die Hard rip-offs that flooded the market in the years after the original.

The Golden Briefcase is also broadcast LIVE on Wednesday nights starting ~7:30PM PST. You can listen in via our Ustream page or by visiting our own live page right here on FS. The podcast is just as fun to listen to live while it's being recorded, with plenty of special guests, so I suggest you tune in the next time it records.

I saw Side By Side a few months of my favorite film-related documentaries. It's right up there with 'Empire of Dreams' and 'Capturing Avatar'

Cool discussion...the Die Hard films are among those that I never really got exposed to, I've only ever caught a few minutes of each. I've been meaning to watch them, I don't think I need any further convincing.

I think most people don't get Harmony Korine's films that's what's going on here. Spring Breakers looks amazing, Skrillex included. Also it was great seeing David Lynch in Side By Side, gave me hope that he'll make another film someday! Can't get enough of him. Surely my favorite American filmmaker.
