TGB Episode 152: Rob Zombie's Horror Brand (Guest: Sam Strange)

April 19, 2013

TGB - Rob Zombie

On this week's episode of The Golden Briefcase, Tim and Jeremy are joined by writer Evan Saathoff aka Sam Strange from Badass Digest and UGO to go through their latest picks of the week, the newest in DVD & Blu-ray releases, new trailers for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Universal's R.I.P.D. and much more. The main topic of the night was a discussion on the film career of musician-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie, in honor of the limited release of his new film Lords of Salem this weekend. The guys go over Zombie's brief but striking horror filmography and where they see him going with films to come. Listen in!

The Golden Briefcase is also broadcast LIVE on Wednesday nights starting ~7:30PM PST. You can listen in via our Ustream page or by visiting our own live page right here on FS. The podcast is just as fun to listen to live while it's being recorded, with plenty of special guests, so I suggest you tune in the next time it records.

I know you've been having issues with the live broadcasts lately, haven't been able to listen to TGB live in the last two weeks. Hope you guys figure it out, I've missed it.

Oh man, that opening music brought back memories of my younger days when I owned that CD. Awesome for you guys to have a Rob Zombie episode. I personally think that the ONLY version of his 'Halloween 2' that should have been seen was his Director's's darker and with a much superior ending in my opinion.

OH MY GOD the Godzilla vs Destroyah reference! That is my ABSOLUTE favorite Godzilla film, it made me tear up when I was younger.

There were more than a few key CGI moments. The biggest one...I'll just say 'meltdown'

I LOVE Rob Zombie! His work is very misunderstood, but he's definitely an auteur and a cool guy.

I'd like to see a Rob Zombie movie that DIDN'T star his wife and that he DIDN'T write. The man is a true artist, that's undeniable. He has tremendous talent behind the mike and the camera. Just a shame it feels like every movie is a different spin on the white trash meme. I'd personally love to see Zombie branch out and try some new things. Maybe direct an episode or two of The Walking Dead or Hannibal? Maybe let him take a stab at something like a Dead Space movie? Or revisit the revisited. Give him the reigns to a remake, like the Crow or Robo-Cop? Can you imagine how brutally satisfying the Crow would be with Zombie at the helm? Seems like it would be something he could serve well. Just leave the wife at home. And leave the white trash BS to Harmony Korine.
