TGB Episode 177: The Superhero's Journey (Guest: Film Crit Hulk)
by Tim Buel
November 7, 2013
On this week's episode of The Golden Briefcase, Tim and Jeremy are joined by Film Crit HULK (aka @FilmCritHULK) of Badass Digest to discuss their picks of the week, the newest DVD & Blu-ray releases and more. The main topic was an in-depth discussion on Joseph's Campbell's Heroes' Journey in relation to superhero movies, in honor of Marvel's Thor: The Dark World hitting theaters. Hulk talks about his major issues with Campbell's Journey as a plot structure and how it works and doesn't work in relation to superhero films. The guys discuss implementation and which films successfully carve out their own journey.

I've been wanting to write to you guys for a while... I'll probably write a longer letter later. Right now I just want to say, Holy shit that was a great episode! I would have liked a little more opinions from Tim and Jeremy, but Hulk rocks! After his TED talk I understand what the hell bugs me about JJ Abrams' Star Trek. The one point I enjoyed the most was his disgust about "Destiny". I agree, I get tremendously pissed off when "Destiny", "fate", "prophecy" are mentioned in any movie, tv show, or cartoon. Worse even when the damn prophecy comes true. Anyway, keep up the good work!
