The Potential Superhero Line-Up for 'Justice League' Now Revealed?

Justice League

It's 2013, which means this is finally the year for Superman to rise to the big screen again in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (watch the most recent stunning trailer right here). That also means we'll finally know whether or not Snyder's take on The Big Blue Boy Scout will be the same version taking to the skies along with the superhero ensemble Justice League, which Warner Bros is still hoping to release in 2015. Well, someone at Cosmic Book News has a source at DC Entertainment that has revealed a few details on the superhero line-up that will be used. It's basically the line-up that everyone would expect from DC Comics.

Here's the information that Cosmic Book News (via Superhero Hype) rounded up:

Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.

Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.

Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.

Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold's character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.

Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.

Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.

Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.

• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.

Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.

Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.

• Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

Therefore, this will be the first time we'll be seeing Wonder Woman, The Flash, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman on the big screen. That's a lot of characters to introduce in a superhero ensemble. It's already been established that DC Entertainment is basically doing the reverse of what Marvel did with The Avengers by starting with Justice League and then giving each hero their own movie (with the exception of Man of Steel potentially kicking off everything much like Iron Man).

We'll take this as rumor for now, and one thing that has us skeptical is that there's no mention of whether or not Batman is Joseph Gordon-Levitt from The Dark Knight Rises or if there are any other ties to that universe. That seems to be an important detail conveniently left out. Either way, with only two years until the potential release of Justice League, there should be some solid updates soon. Thoughts?

Those descriptions sound like they were written by a teenager.

Which is exactly in 70% of movie scripts.the writing level.

mooreworthy on Jan 2, 2013

If you're going to make fun of someone else's writing you should at least be able to properly structure a sentence...

Sean on Jan 3, 2013

Maybe I am one of the 70%.

I'm curious as to how they are going to change Green Lantern into a more serious character, or will they just forget how he acted in his movie and completely just rewrite his personality? Also the Batman ordeal is very delicate, I wouldn't mind Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing him but he is not Bruce Wayne, I know Nolan saw Batman as a symbol..but at the same time Levitt was not Bruce Wayne in the film. I feel as if they are gonna write the script in a way that is convenient for them to put everything together which might not make sense in terms the Batman ordeal.

I think they'll do Green Lantern a bit like Marvel did Captain America...

Joe Johnston on Jan 2, 2013

GL will think he is flippin awesome until he sees Superman, so he will try to overcompensate by being the hard ass. Batman will call him out on it and GL will make light of bats being just "ordinary"

mooreworthy on Jan 2, 2013

They sort of did that with War Machine after Iron Man 1 didn't they? I enjoyed him quite a bit in the first one, then all of a sudden Don Cheadle was like "I take no shit, I am a serious man, grrr" and personally I think it sucked chode. Can't just completely change a characters personality, if theres a reason for it maybe... Like if they killed off his love interest or something?

Guy who comments on things on Jan 2, 2013

I didn't mind Cheadle's performance in Iron Man 2. I personally just think the outcome was because of the look of Cheadle that made him seem more serious, but I do see what you mean. Also I think they did it because as a secondary character it's not that big a risk to change his character up a bit. But for GL that's a main character who has had is own movie, to change how he acts would be rash imo. They seem to badly want to take a serious tone in this movie, I just hope it doesn't become too serious where it's not enjoyable..

See now they should try and bring Bale back as Batman, cause Bale and Nolan didn't want their Batman to be a part of the Justice League and the Description of Bats above doesn't want to be part of the Justice League either.

Phase 2 has begun! just getting started. Good luck!

Batman is not a team player so I get teh description and it should be that way to build some tension betweene the group. The weakest characters here would be GL and aquaman. GL could be portrayed by an older actor and make him more serious, but I have no idea how would aquaman fit in this... I hope the entire thing will be more serious and "dark" to stand oposite popcorny colorfull avengers.

I like the idea of them having Reynolds be GL again(it seems that's what they are getting at)....that movie was not good, but having some sense of connection and continuity to pre-existing films would still be interesting. The Avengers had 4 separate characters established with their own films. This will not. So carrying over both Superman and Green Lantern will lend itself to the 'crossover team-up' nature of the film that makes more interesting.

Chris Groves on Jan 2, 2013

Also, it'd be awesome if Batman was in fact John Blake being portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and if Alfred Pennyworth was played by none other than Michael Caine. That would be a really awesome way to continue off of and honor Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Chris Groves on Jan 2, 2013

The description it's so generic, flat, dull, that's actually could be any tv show, movie, comic book related to the Justice League. I have a baaad feeling about all this.

capitandelespacio on Jan 2, 2013

Please stop using Cosmic Book News as a source. They make up 90% of their stories. They are a disgrace to journalism and ought to be blacklisted like Stephen Glass.

Yeah this sounds completely fake. Well it's probably good for your site views haha.

Lincoln Smith on Jan 2, 2013

Aqua Man:Justice League = Hawkeye:The Avengers

Mithun Divakaran on Jan 2, 2013

If they bring back Bale, Reynolds, and Cavill I am in for this midnight premiere.

Luis Eduardo Ortiz on Jan 2, 2013

Most of the characters descriptions come from the current justice league team in the new 52. I will still hold negative comments until I see hard evidence.

mooreworthy on Jan 2, 2013

hey! what about the Wonder Twins???

Jasen Durant on Jan 2, 2013

Honestly I hope they don't tie it in with Nolan's Batman. I would like them to have a fresh take on the character. I don't think the Batman in Nolan's movies would last very long against Darkseid.

CellReborn on Jan 2, 2013

This line-up is fake. They would put in Cyborg and probably make him the point-of-entry character for the audience: youngest, newest powers, and they could do a two-second origin story in the course of the movie. They won't do Darkseid or an alien invasion for the first movie, because of the Avengers. They should just follow Geoff Johns lead and do a Throne of Atlantis lead-in, that way they won't have to do an Aquaman movie, and they can make it as dark as they want - The Abyss meets Dune meets Final Impact.

Nesmith Crowell on Jan 3, 2013

If they re-boot Green Lantern, they should do Sinestro War over the course of a trilogy, skip all the origin bullshit, just have all the earth lanterns running and gunning, re-cast Hal Jordan - more Indiana Jones, less whatever Ryan Reynolds was doing. The second Justice League movie should have the Legion of Doom, with some Intergang, Parademon support, and the last movie should be Dirty Mike himself.

Nesmith Crowell on Jan 3, 2013

I think James Franco, Toby Kebbell or Michael C. Hall would make a great Green Lantern. They're all worthy of a franchise. Kebbell would make GL darker, more serious which would be amazing with Mark Strong (teaming up again after RocknRolla). Franco is more your classic leading man but still more serious and probably fits the comic personality better: such a good, virtuous person, greatness waiting to happen, give Superman a run for his money as Earth's biggest boy scout, if there is any human worthy of being a superhero it's Hal Jordan. Seems like light fare for Michael C. Hall but he could make it work. ......................seems like they want Ryan Reynolds to come back though lol. Reynolds should have waited he would make such a good Flash. Can't think of someone who would've been better. Much better than he is as GL. Still not as perfect as Deadpool. He was born to play him. I don't think there is a single movie that has to happen more than a RR Deadpool. I'd take it before Incredibles 2. Anyways back to Flash... maybe Jamie Bell? I would like Neil Patrick Harris even though some people don't like him, plus he's getting older. Kebbell or Hall would make a great Martian Manhunter. I'd like Armie Hall as Batman. On another note Hall, Kebbell, and Franco would be great as Daredevil or Ghost Rider also.
