Production is already underway on Marvel's cosmic superhero risk Guardians of the Galaxy, with Slither and Super director James Gunn at the helm. And while we're still waiting for a couple key roles to be cast (like Rocket Raccoon), we might have confirmation on the roles for actors who have already been signed as part of the cast. Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace and Karen Gillan all have roles in the film, and while they have all been pegged for villainous roles in the Phase Two film, their specific characters have not yet been revealed. But if a rumor from Den of Geek is to be believed, we are no longer in the dark. Read on.
Though it was thought that del Toro might be up for the role of Thanos, the villain who showed up with an evil grin in The Avengers credits, supposedly he will be playing The Collector. We heard about this role when Lee Pace was cast, only because Ophelia Lovibond had landed a role as an aide to the villain. So who is The Collector? At the time, the Marvel guru over at ScreenRant explained:
"The Collector is a rather important being in the Marvel Comics universe, and one of the oldest. His real name is Taneleer Tivan and he’s the last surviving member of his species, one of the first intelligent races formed after the creation of the universe. That fact made him worthy enough to be granted immortality from “Death” – the character for which Thanos aims to serve and impress. Thoughts?
Tivan/The Collector has a limited ability to see the future, specifically the ability to see threats that can destroy the galaxy before they occur. His hobby, a purpose he gave himself billions of years ago to keep sane, is therefore to protect the universe in his own odd way and he has the name “The Collector” because he literally collects special artifacts and beings from around the universe and houses them in museums (large ships and planets) with the goal of re-seeding the universe and sharing his knowledge should it be annihilated."
As for Pace, he will be playing the villain Ronan the Accuser. This was a character that John C. Reilly was confusedly linked to before a report was clarified confirming that he was playing Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps. Ronan is a pretty powerful bad guy, part of the alien race known as the Kree, and in some comic storylines, he's actually the son of Thanos, so his presence would make sense. As for Gillan, she's reportedly playing Nebula, a villain and space pirate, who claimed to be the granddaughter of Thanos. So it sounds like Thanos might not be the big bad guy in Guardians of the Galaxy, and might simply have ties to the villain in order to set up something for The Avengers 2. We'll have to wait and find out what it is.

In West Philadelphia born and raised. On the playground is where I spent most of my days. Chillin' out max and relaxin' all cool, and shootin' some b-ball outside of da school. When a couple of guys, who were up to no good, started makin' trouble in my neighborhood.

Marvel slipped up with Iron Man 3. While entertaining, ultimately forgettable and leaves one scratching their heads if it was RDJ pretending to be Iron Man and where's the real Iron Man 3 film?

Iron Man 3 was like Spider-Man 3 to me. It never happened. Let's get on with the real Marvel Studio films. Let's get back to business.
