Tom Hardy

Back in September of 2011, we learned of a new project called Rocketman, a biographical musical fantasy about the bespectacled singer and songwriter Elton John. The project was said to weave together the life and music of John's career starting with his life as a child prodigy on the piano, moving through his rebellious teenage years and onto his iconic years as quite an outrageously and outlandishly dressed showman and one hell of a musician, singer and songwriter. John himself commented nearly a year and a half ago that his top choice to play him would be Justin Timberlake, but a new name has emerged. Read on!

HitFix has learned that director Michael Gracey is currently looking at Tom Hardy to take the lead in the film. Considering Hardy hasn't been seen on the big screen in any musical capacity, and his screen presence seems much more macho and less flamboyant than John's larger than life persona, this really comes out of left field. It sounds like an extremely challenging role for Hardy, and one that could result in some Oscar love if he can pull it off. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Hardy is that despite his rise to blockbusters, he doesn't seem inclined to just become a typical leading man. Right now there's no official offer for the role, but Hardy is definitely first in line. Stay tuned for more.

Hardy can play anyone. But hed have to lose some of that muscle and gain some weight. Hardy is one of the best actors alive. He can do anything

lol - while I applaud your (kind of scary / freaky) Tom Hardy obsession... I'm afraid I have to draw the line at the thought of hearing his rendition of "Tiny Dancer"
